ROBERT WILLIAM FISHER

Born in Brooklyn, NY

Had 2 sisters

His parents divorced in 1976

The divorce was hard for him to cope with

WHAT HAPPENED IN HIS

CHILDHOOD?

Was his first offence

Murdered his wife and her 2 children, both under the age of 13

Mary was shot, Bobby and Brittany’s throats were slit

He then proceeded to blow up his house to cover his tracks

This was called triple murder and arson*

He’s on the FBI’s most wanted list

Triple murder and arson: killing of 3 people and malicious burning or

exploding of the dwelling house of another

WHAT CRIME DID HE COMMIT

Fisher was afraid of divorce

Felt threatened with his wife’s intent to get divorced

He didn’t want his children to go through what he did as a child

WHY DID HE DO THIS?

Has not been sentenced yet

Still on the run

FBI is offering up to a $100,000 reward for information leading to his arrest

WHAT WAS HIS SENTENCE

Police found his dog and car in Tonto National Forest, a hundred miles north

of Scottsdale where the murder took place

They were found about 10 days after the murder and fire

Fled from his home and job as a repertory therapist

EVIDENCE THAT HE IS GUILTY

WHAT DOES HE LOOK LIKE

TODAY?

I feel Fisher falls under the anomie theory the most. Fisher had never

committed a crime before this, and he has had a clean record all his life. To

this day, nobody truly knows why he did what he did, considering he’s still on

the run. Though it wasn’t really a “social strain” it was more of a mental

strain. Can you imagine thinking to yourself everyday “my wife is going to

leave me, she’s going to take my children, they are going to grow up hating me

like I did with my parents.”

WHAT THEORY DOES HE FALL

UNDER?

I feel this mental strain on fisher drove him insane. He didn’t know

what was going to happen, and he didn’t want to hurt his children like his

parents hurt him. He had already gotten the traits of his father, very

controlling and straight to the point. He didn’t want his children to be the

same way. Though this was a inhumane way of going about an issue like this,

it was more of the mental state fisher was in at the time. I feel as if Fisher was

very confused, and just needed a way to escape, thus killing his family and

fleeing. To this day, nobody knows if he’s still alive or if he has committed

suicide.
