HELLO…

CVs can be dry, so here’s a visual glimpse at my editorial work.

I’ve done a variety of projects in an evolving media landscape, so I hope this portfolio gives a decent overview of the range of publications and online assignments I’ve covered.

Thanks for taking a look.

DIGITAL EXPERTISE…

I have built up my digital publishing skills through a variety of major projects.

I work regularly on Mail Plus, the Daily Mail’s iPad edition, re-editing print content for a highly interactive daily tablet edition consisting of picture/video galleries, panoramic photos, additional editorial and specially commissioned graphic artwork. I worked across news, features and business…

… DIGITAL EXPERTISE…

As editor-in-chief at Scorpio Multimedia I launched a TV listings website using data from our magazines. This proved so successful that Telewest, our parent company, then adapted our data for an Electronic Programme Guide for their subscribers to use via the remote control…

…DIGITAL EXPERTISE

I am a finalist in the 2015 UK Blog Awards for my own site, crimetimepreview.com – which is about TV crime drama, making it one of the UK’s top 10 arts and culture blogs.

I have blogged at HuffPost UK, and sites such as the London Festival Fringe and shotsmag, the UK’s top crime fiction site. I have edited web content for TV & Satellite Week.

I am a member of Hacks/Hackers London, a meet-up of digital journos and programmers, above right, have attended a General Assembly advanced social media course and I’m adept with CSS/HTML.

CABLE GUIDE ZAP/NTL GUIDEI developed Cable Guide from a 120-page TV listings and contract magazine into a 216-page title in 13 regional editions. It was paid for through customer subs and grew from 60,000 to a 2m circulation. It was eventually split into two branded versions – Zap (for Telewest) and NTL Guide.

I commissioned top writers for it, including the likes of award-winner Brian Viner and features writers in Hollywood and Australia. In focus groups it was always preferred over Sky Guide.

ZAP…One of six magazines that I that launched or edited while at Scorpio Multimedia (which published magazines and websites for the cable TV industry and clients). Zap, published on behalf of Telewest, was the UK’s first interactive TV magazine, a guide to on-demand TV – shopping, banking, travelling, TV…

… ZAP

The title was popular because it carried comprehensive listings for a complex service. I also commissioned specials in collaboration with the likes of Cartoon Network, with whom I negotiated exclusive artwork for a trio of linked covers.

CABLE GUIDE AWARDSThe awards ran for five

years and its star-studded ceremony was televised

on the Living channel. I helped to launch the event, which received

30,000 votes from Cable Guide readers and on our

website. The awards turned out to be a valuable

marketing tool for Telewest and ntl in their battle with BSkyB. I also

produced the awards brochure

THE CLIPPERI devised the editorial pitch for this customer magazine. A glossy travel companion, it was placed in the cabins of travellers with the luxury line Star Clipper Cruises. I commissioned the editor of Yachting Monthly to write for us, and the travel editor of the Sunday Times to write a guide to the destinations ports. It also carried fashion features, seafaring book recommendations and food guides. The content included translations of the English text into French and German.

TESCO CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDEWhen I started freelancing, one of my first jobs was to edit this annual title for Cedar, which I did for three years. Covering everything from fashion to electrical goods, it was published in two editions – UK/Ireland – with a print run of 4.5m. My role included liaising with Tesco buyers, managing the subs and ensuring the brand radiated from our pages.

EIGHTA customer title for 888.com customers (published by Cedar).

I suggested a monthly guide to playing poker online, which I researched and wrote, along with several interviews with amateurs who ended up winning big.

TV MAGS

Television is my speciality – from chief-subbing at Radio Times to editing Cable Guide, reviewing films on the Mail’s Weekend magazine and interviewing Michael Palin for TV & Satellite Week.

YOUR TV WEEKI was part of the launch team for this weekly contract title for Tesco, which was sold in-store (published by PSP Rare 2010-12).

I was the chief sub and columnist.

HELLO!I freelance regularly at the celeb mag as a sub, and was invited in to write and chief-sub this Christmas special edition.

WORLD SOCCERI was commissioned to write guides to the TV coverage of two World Cups for World Soccer magazine, including interviews with the commentators and features about memorable television moments from the tournament.

NATIONAL TV AWARDS

A brochure that was designed to be given to guests and celebrities at ITV’s annual awards event and distributed at newsagents.

I commissioned the features and edited the publication with a team of freelancers.

YOURThis supplement highlighting Sky TV’s proposition for female subscribers and families (as opposed to all the football) was bound into The Mail On Sunday’s award-winning You magazine. I researched, wrote and edited the pages.

THERAPY WEEKLYI edited this trade weekly at Bauer, a title for physical therapists featuring news, comment, best practice and interviews. My role entailed contacting experts and commissioning opinion pieces, editing pages and press-passing editions. I also edited content for a conference supplement.

HIGHBURY COMMUNITY NEWS

I have also edited on a voluntary

basis my neighbourhood

newsletter, a quarterly blast by

residents and local authors

about the area that is distributed

to 1000 businesses and

homes.
