VISIBILITY THROUGH TECHNOLOGY

History of RFID

The concept was first used in I.F.F. during the World War II, where it was used to identify aircraft as Friend or Foe.

First true passive RFID tags demonstrated in 1971 to New York port authority as a possible method of collecting tolls.

The plan presented to investors in 1969 showed potential uses as

•automatic toll system or electronic license plate, •electronic manifest, •banking (electronic check book, electronic credit card),

• security (personnel identification, surveillance),•medical (identification, patient history)
