5-Step Model – 1&2
1. Electronic Handbook– Storing basic course
documentation, like the traditional ‘course handbook’
– Often just uploaded as existing ‘print based’ files
2. Online Filing Cabinet– A ‘learning’ / revision repository– Often a long list of existing
handouts / presentation files and links to websites
5-Step Model – 3&4
3. Technology Supported Personalisation and Differentiation
– Differentiation is possible – Stretch &/or support individuals– Provide options to personalise learning
journeys
4. Technology Enhanced Social Networking– Develop online communities of practice– Collaborative tasks– Reflective activities
5-Step Model – 5
5. eAssessment– Formative – Summative– Wide ranging possibilities
including:• Using e-portfolios• Checking own progress• Accepting / encouraging
electronic assignment submission
• Online testing
Integrated throughout stages 3&4?
Embedding Interactivity
• Encouraging lecturers to use online learning environments in more engaging and interactive ways
• Important message:– Replicate / reproduce their own
(‘teacher’) input– Learning becomes more relevant
and effective
Moodle ‘Course Report’
• Written specifically for us– Lewis Carr (VLE Manager)
• Report– Rates number and type of
resources and activities – Contextualisation– Points awarded (higher as
interactivity increases)
• Important:– Constructive information /
feedback
Planning and Designing
• Scenarios• Examples
• 5-Step Model
• Offline Planning
• Online Designing
Enhance a Course
• Developing a 'standard' repository style course, add:– Context– Navigation– Activity– Interactivity
• Test course ‘score’
