LOCATION: The William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education
Activity Description:Let’s face it, sitting through a lecture about dental caries or caries risk assessment isn’t appealing (in fact, it sounds downright boring). However, the science behind plaque biofilm and its impact on the human mouth is progressing at rapid speeds! In addition, the science on clinical cariology is beginning to have an impact on restorative techniques and technology.
Streptococcus mutans has more to fear than a rheostat, now that we’re armed with salivary diagnostics and bioactive materials. Join us to find out how this science can radically change your practice and the way you recommend patient treatment!
AcknowledgementUNC School of Dentistry would like to acknowledge GC America Inc. and Shofu Dental Corporation for supporting this activity with unrestricted educational grants.
Educational ObjectivesAt the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
• Describe the three types of bacteria implicated in dental caries.• Interpret results from diagnostic tests for dental caries.• Implement targeted therapeutics in a variety of patients.• Transition patients from high to low caries risk.• Intervene medically in the caries process.• Control patient caries risk with focused therapeutics.• Design restorations to minimize recurrent decay.• Improve the prognosis of restorative treatment.
