Katy PerryKaty Perry belongs to several record labels, the most popular being Columbia Records, which is owned by Sony Music Entertainment, and Capitol Records, which is currently owned by Universal Music group. Her music video “Roar” was produced by Capitol Records and was a success due to the success and status of the record label, as a higher budget could be used to produce the music video for ’Roar’. Overall, Katy Perry's music video’s could be seen as commercialising her star image, however; on a larger scale, her videos could be seen as her way of using her voice and getting her message across to her audience as some of them like “Roar” tells a narrative.
Olly MursOlly Murs is also assigned to Columbia Records, as well as Epic Records, owned by Sony, and Syco Music Records, which is owned by Syco Entertainment. His music video for ‘Up’, which features on his Never Been Better album and features the singer Demi Lovato, was produced by both Epic and Syco Records. These two record labels combined allowed Olly Murs to produce a record selling single with an amazing music video. I feel that this music video in particular is Olly Murs thoughts on conflict in relationships as he portrays how both sides of the relationship can’t cope without each other, which is conveyed through the ending where Olly Murs and Demi Lovato break through the wall that separates them.
George EzraGeorge Ezra is only assigned to two record labels, Columbia Records and Sony Music Entertainment. His music video ‘Budapest’ that features on his Wanted On Voyage album was produced by both of these record labels and creates a narrative that George Ezra wants to portray. In my opinion, this music video in particular seems to offer something more than just as advertisement for his star image. This video consists of various people from various cultures and backgrounds all standing motionless in a group, and as the song goes on, all of these people begin to interact with each other.
