Benefactors The benefactors for the Local History Room are members

of the Walker Family:

Joseph Walker, Jr. Claude M. Walker Marion Walker Clarke Felix D. Walker Robert C. Walker John S. Walker

The Walker family has long been involved with the cotton industry. The patriarch of the family was Joseph Walker, the senior member of the firm of Joseph Walker and Company, one of the leading cotton companies of the South.

Introduction The Local History Room contains historical and some

current material focusing on the Midlands of South

Carolina (Columbia, Richland County, and the surrounding

counties of Lexington, Orangeburg, Newberry, Fairfield,

Kershaw, Sumter, and Calhoun) and other general South

Carolina sources. The collection is selective, not

exhaustive.

Hours Monday –

Thursday 9-9

Friday – Saturday 9-6

Sunday 2-6

Helpful Hints Materials may not be removed from the area; however,

duplicate copies of some titles may be found in the circulating collection.

A copier and a microfilm/microfiche reader/printer are available to use for those sources which are found only in the Local History Room.
