Victoria was born on May,22nd 1819 ,died on January, 22nd 1901. She was the queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland since June ,20th 1837,the empress
of India since May , 1st 1876 ,last representative of the Hanover dynasty on
throne of Great Britain.
Victoria’s father Prince Edward died when she was only eight months .She was brought up under strict laws of her
mother.
The future Queen got a good education.
She spoke German, French and Italian
fluently.
In 1840, Victoria married her first cousin, Prince Albert .Albert, with whom she was very much in love, became the dominant
influence her life,
Victoria and Albert had nine children. Their marriages and those of her grandchildren strengthened the British royal house with
those of Russia, Germany, Greece, Denmark ,Romania and several of the German states. Queen Victoria got the
nickname ,,the grandmother of Europe’’.
In 1861,Albert (who had been named prince consort in 1857) died. Victoria’s grief was so great that she did not appear in public for three years and did not open Parliament until 1866.
Queen Victoria had large blue eyes, smooth light –brown hair that darkened with age. She had a silvery voice
and had a radiant,
though rare smile.
In her old age Victoria was enormously popular . Jubilees were held in 1887 and 1897 to celebrate the 50th and 60th years of the longest English reign.
The Queen was not highly intelligent, but her conscientiousness and strict morals helped to restore the prestige of the crown and to establish it as a symbol of public service and imperial unity.
Her reign of 63 years and 7 months, which is longer than that of any other British monarch and the longest of any female monarch in history, as the Victoria era. It was a period of industrial, cultural, political, scientific, and military change within the United Kingdom, and was marked by a great expansion of the British Empire.
She was the last British monarch of the House of Hanover ; her
son and successor
Edward Vll belonged to the House of Saxe-Coburg and
Gotha. Queen Victoria is one of the most popular monarchs in
Great Britain.
