Q2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Faisa plays the main protagonist and the audience will first know this because she is introduced through the voiceover. She
narrates how she and her group of friends are outcasts in the school. The characters are introduced individually by Faisa with
the information given to the audience about their personality. When the camera
freezes mid shot on Faisa, her facial expression looks unhappy and bored. This
is to notify how the main protagonist is fed up with her daily routine, the
comment is also made in the voiceover.
Faisa
Aminatta plays the ‘nerd’ in the group. The audience knows this as she is
stereotypically wearing round glasses whilst holding a stack of books. It is common for there to be at least one nerd in a teen comedy because if the setting is in a school then it would be appropriate for a geeky character to
take their place in scenes. Our actress plays a nerd who is stubborn as the audience can see she is bothered by the company next to her. Most nerds
are portrayed as ‘shy’ and isolate themselves away from a group,
however we have decided to portray our character in the opposite way as it
breaks the stereotype of nerds.
Aminatta
Hossam plays the ‘joker’ of the group and the audience can see this as he asks
Aminatta a question which is random and irrelevant. The voiceover also states how
he is known for his “weird traits”. Aminatta can be seen bothered by his presence which gives the explanation that his
character will play many pranks and make comments to the group.
Hossam
Jordan is portrayed as the ‘gamer’ in the film. This is shown to the audience as he is
holding a game console and wearing a cape. However, this part in the opening is
comedic because when Faisa asks “Where’s Jordan?” the camera slowly pans out of him
in the bathroom with his trousers pulled down.

Q3: How did you attract/address your audience?
We asked a variety of questions to
some audiences to receive their
feedback on what they like about the teen genre. This is
shown in the ‘Audience
Feedback’ video on the blog.
Q3
Audience research was a major factor which helped us to address the audience. The survey helped us to validate on what we should include in our opening. Most people said they enjoyed teen films
because they are funny which is why we decided to include humour as it is a typical code and convention.
