Elizabeth City State Universityranks third among the top,public Historically BlackColleges/Universities (HBCUs)in a recent survey thatanalyzes efforts the institutionsare taking to effectivelymanage energy.
The Building Green Initiative at Clark AtlantaUniversity partnered with the North Carolina Institutefor Minority Economic Development to conduct acomprehensive sustainability survey of HBCUs. Thesurvey recognizes and celebrates the achievementsof the "Top 10 Green HBCUs" which include: theUniversity of Maryland Eastern Shore, SpelmanCollege, Florida A & M University, Howard University,and Elizabeth City State University in the top five.North Carolina Agriculture & Technical University,Livingstone, Bowie State, Morgan State, Mississippi

Nine ECSU students inductedinto Who's Who AmongStudents in AmericanUniversities and Colleges Elizabeth City State University announces ninestudents selected for inclusion in Who's Who AmongStudents in American Universities and Colleges, anexclusive honor conferred by more than 2,842 schoolsin all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Inducteesinclude Valerie Edwards, Quarda Fobbs, ShaquanisiaGay, Anitra Hill, Tenise Jenkins, Annamarie Lewis,Angela Majors, Alexa Speller and Joan Tant.

In April, the official logo forECSU's 125th AnniversaryCelebration, taking placeduring the 2015-2016school year, was unveiledto ECSU alumni. The logounveiling marks thebeginning of 125thanniversary-related eventsand happenings, andfeatures ECSU's oldestbuilding, Lane Hall, as wellas the official tagline of the125th Celebrationsubmitted by alumna andECSU staff member Chelsea Whidbee, '97. Amongthe most notable, History Professor Glen Bowman'shistorical account of ECSU will tell the story ofresilience among the Mighty Vikings, and the manystruggles and triumphs that make up the rich historyof the university. Alumni have been charged withnaming the book; the winning name will be unveiled atthe NAA, Inc. Summer Convention in July. Interestedalumni may click here to learn more.
Supporters of ECSU also have the opportunity to leave their mark in the pages of ECSU's history. Fora donation of $1,250, donors will have their nameslisted as a sponsor of the book. Sponsorshipsreceived by October 31, 2014, (the deadline to donate)will also receive a copy of the book. Donations canbe made online. (Under "About Your Gift," select "Other"for Area of Giving, and then note "125th Book" in thecomments section).

ECSU's Global Leadership Academy recentlywelcomed His Excellency Frederick Sumaye, formerprime minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, asthe guest speaker for the Chancellor's DistinguishedLecture Series.
His Excellency Sumaye served as a member ofParliament from October 1985 until December 2005.His Excellency also served as Deputy Minister andMinister, consecutively, of Agriculture, Livestock andCooperatives. He served as the Prime Minister of theUnited Republic of Tanzania from November 1995 toDecember 2005, during which time he acted as theprincipal advisor to the President and led theimplementation of policies and programs within allministry, regional, and governmental agencies. HisExcellency also chaired various committees, includingthe National Investment Steering Committee, FastTrack Privatization Committee, and the DisasterManagement Committee. Following his time as PrimeMinister, His Excellency served as a GoodwillAmbassador for the United Nations IndustrialDevelopment Organization (UNIDO) from 2005 to2006. Sumaye, earned his diploma from EgertonUniversity in Kenya, and a MPA from HarvardUniversity. READ MORE
