Production of Activated Carbon from Coconut Shells

Apart from being natural and eco-friendly, we plan to manufacture activated carbon from coconut shells – energy saving process. Activated carbon is a form of carbon having low pore volume and good surface area imparting it great adsorptive properties. Its applications are abundant and hence the demand is high. The conventional method of producing activated carbon is Pyrolysis of coconut shells and the Activation of char. In our method of preparation, we plan on using a fluidized bed reactor due to its superlative mass and heat transfer properties compared to the other conventional reactors.
