Screen format ratio• Standard academy format: which is essentially a 4:3

ratio

• Widescreen format: widescreen (or 16 X 9 nches), which is a 1.85:1 format

Rendering

Resolution • Most TV and computer monitors use a 72-ppi resolution• A full-screen image measurement of 720 X 480 pixels

(or 720 X 576 pixels for TV in the United Kingdom and other PAL-based regions).

• High-definition screens, however, require a larger screen dimension. One of the most standard is 1920 X 1080 pixels. Others can be used also, as long as they conform to a basic 16 X 9 screen ratio

Frame rates

• The standard projection rate for film is 24 fps. • On TV in the United States and other NTSC broadcast

regions around the world, 24 fps or, more usually, 30 fps is the requirement.

• In the United Kingdom and other PAL broadcast regions of the world, the TV projection rate is 25 fps.

• Computers run at 30 fps and video games at 60 fps (in this case, “ fields ” per second, which is eff ectively the equivalent of 30 “ frames ” per second).
