Principal’s Coffee: CAASPP Testing

What is the CAASPP?

CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) is the annual, springtime series of assessments for students in grades 3-5. These tests were created specifically to gauge each student’s performance in science, mathematics and English language arts/literacy as he or she develops—grade by grade—the skills called for by the standards, including the ability to write clearly, think critically, and solve problems.

The TestsStudents in 3rd-5th grade take the following tests:

1. ELA Summative (CAT)2. ELA Performance Task 3. Math Summative (CAT)4. Math Performance Task5. Science (5th grade only)

English Learners enrolled in US schools for less than 12 months are not required to take the ELA portion of CAASPP. All students take the Math portion.
