Good Luck and Explore On! Ne

You are now about to explore the different layers that make up the Rain Forest! Pay special attention to the different parts that make up each layer, and the animals that call each layer their home!

Exploring Forest

Animals

Exploring LayersFirst were going to explore the Emergent Layer of the Rain Forest. This layer of the forest is the tallest layer of the forest towering with emergent trees as tall as 200 feet! WOW that’s tall! The trunks of these trees can measure up to 16 ft. around.Ne

xt

Exploring Layers

Most of the trees in the Emergent Layer are have broad leaves and are hardwood evergreens. Sunlight is plentiful up here and many animals live in these large trees that make up the Emergent Level of the Rain Forest! Animals who call this layer home are Scarlet Macaw birds, Monkeys, Bats, and Blue Morpho Butterflies.

Next

Exploring LayersThe Canopy Layer of the forest is the primary layer of the forest. The Canopy of leaves forms a roof over the two remaining layers allowing animals to sleep safe at night! Most canopy trees have smooth oval leaves that come to a point.

Next

Exploring LayersThe Canopy Layer is a maze of leaves and branches and many animals live in this area because there is lots of food for animals to eat. Animals that call this layer home are orangutans snakes, toucans, and tree frogs.

Next

Exploring LayersThe Understory Layer of the Rain Forest receives little sunlight from the sun because it is one of the lower levels of the forest. Plans have to grow larger leaves to reach the sunlight and the plants in this are seldom grow to 13 ft.

Next

Exploring LayersMany animals live in the Understory Layer of the Rain forest such as jaguars, red eyed tree frogs, and leopards. There is also a large concentration of insects in this area.

Next

Exploring LayersThe Shrub Layer and Forest Floor Layer of the rain forest is very dark! SCARY! Almost no plants grow in this area because hardly any sun reaches this are of the floor. Plans and animal decay quickly in this area of the forest.

Next

Exploring LayersIn the Shrub Layer and the Forest Floor Layer, it takes things hardly any time to decompose. A leaf that might take one ear to decompose in a regular climate will disappear in 6 weeks. Giants anteaters and gorillas call these layers home.

Next

Awesome Job! Now its time to explore the different animals that roar and soar throughout the Rain Forest! Click the return to the homepage button. Once on the homepage, click on the Exploring Animals button to let your journey begin!

You are now about to explore the different animals that creep and crawl throughout the Rain Forest! Be careful and proceed with caution!!

Exploring Animals

The Scarlet Macaw is located on the Emergent Layer of the Rain Forest. This colorful bird in located in the Tropical Rain Forests of Central and South America. They live in the tree leaves atop of the tallest trees in the forest.

Exploring Animals

Next

Exploring AnimalsThe Scarlet Macaw birds can fly 35 mph and often fly in small pairs or flocks. They feed on fruit, seeds, and nuts. Macaws nest in holes located in trees. Female macaws lay plain white eggs 2 at a time.

Next

Exploring AnimalsThe Blue Morpho is

located on the Emergent level of the Rain Forest. They feed on the juice from dying fruits and flowers. Their main enemies in the Rain Forest are birds and insects. Ne

xt

Exploring AnimalsThe Blue Morpho spends its nights hanging from trees. There are 17 official different types of Blue Morphos. They only live for short periods of time like a few days to 8 months.

Next

Exploring AnimalsThe Orangutan is

located in the Canopy Level of the Rain Forest. Orangutans have large bulky bodies, thick necks and very long strong arms. They also have bowed legs and no tails.

Next

Exploring AnimalsOrangutans have senses very similar to humans including hearing, sight, smell, taste, and touch. They have hands and feet that are very much like humans as well. They have four long fingers and 2 thumbs just like us!

Next

Exploring Animals Lemurs are

located in the Canopy level of the Rain Forest. They feed on fruits, leaves, and sometimes insects. The average size of a Lemur is about 2 ft. long.

Next

Exploring AnimalsMost Lemurs are

awake during the day and asleep at night. Lemurs have long wet noises which means that they also have a very good sense of smell. Most people don’t know that lemurs also have really good sight. They can even see in dark of night!

Next

Exploring AnimalsJaguars are located on the Understory Level of the Rain Forest. They are very good swimmers as well. You wouldn't think a cat would like water would you? They are currently on the endangered species list due to loss of habitat and over hunting.

Next

Exploring AnimalsJaguars are large cats that are carnivores. They hunt mammals, reptiles, birds, eggs and alligators. They hunt mostly at night and are nocturnal animals.

Next

Exploring Animals

Next

Exploring AnimalsToucans are birds that are located in the Understory Level of the Rain Forest. They have very strange beaks that are used for eating. Toucans large beaks help them eat fruit especially berries and bananas.

Next

Exploring AnimalsToucans live in small flocks of about six birds. Their bright colors provide good camouflage in the light of the rainforest. That way they can hide out in the trees away from predators.

Next

Exploring AnimalsAnteaters are located on the Forest Floor of the Rain Forest. They are large hairy mammals that live in the Tropical rainforests off South and Central America. They have large claws used to dig for food and they are used for self defense.

Next

Exploring AnimalsAnteaters have terrible eyesight but a very good sense of smell. Anteaters are insectivores which means they are insect eaters. They eat ants, termites, and catch them with their long tongues.

Next

Exploring AnimalsGorillas are located on the Forest Floor of the Rainforest. They are large quiet, gentle apes that are vegetarians. They have very long arms and short bulky bodies with large wide chests.

Next

Exploring AnimalsAdult Gorillas have 3 large teeth used for chewing and large canines used for biting. Gorillas have great senses and hands just like us. They used their hands and feet to grasp things.
