Principal’s Message Dear parents,
We have almost come to the end of the year 2017 and I hope that you are pleased with all the events and
programmes that have been planned for your child’s learning journey at Kidz Meadow Buangkok Ridge.
In this issue, we will be sharing the rest of your child’s magical learning experiences in term 4. This year, we had a
few mass celebrations that combined the infants and the childcare children. We will continue to have this mass
and combined celebrations for both of the bays in the upcoming year to encourage both our infants and
childcare parents to participate in the centre events in 2018. I would like to thank everyone for all the support and
encouragement that was given. Lastly, I would like to wish our K2 children, all the best in their next phase of
learning journey in their respective primary schools.
Regards,
Mdm Amaninah Md Khader

Little Sunshine In Term 4, infants were exposed to the theme “Animals”, ranging from sea to farm animals.
The infant teachers conducted creative activities focusing on their developmental milestones.
Infants were given opportunities in developing their fine motor skills and eye-hand
coordination through this activity. They were given colourful crepe papers to paste on the
shark picture.

Toddlers were further exposed to activities
which enhanced their different needs and
stages of development. “Discovery of the
World” includes activities such as water
play exploration and sand play.
The children had so much fun during
their gross motor activity. They
kicked the animal figurines hung
from a rope, walked on the beam
balance and hopped like a kangaroo
into the hula hoop.

In Term 4, the children engaged in outdoor games to help
enhance their gross motor skills development. Activities
such as ball play may involve different motor skills such as
underarm roll, overhead throw as well as underarm throw.
The teacher focused on the children’s ability in doing the
targeted skill which was the overhead throw using a ball.

小班的幼儿学习了数字1-10,并能够用玩具表示出它们的数量。
Tema: Perayaan Kuih Bulan
Pada penggal kali ini, murid-murid
mempelajari tentang perayaan Kuih
Bulan yang disambut oleh kaum Cina.
Selain mencuba kuih bulan, murid-murid
membuat ‘tanglung’ mereka sendiri. ‘Tanglung’
penting dalam perayaan kuih bulan. Perayaan
seperti tidak lengkap sekiranya mereka tidak
menyiapkan ‘tanglung’ masing-masing.
Creepy Crawlies
Behind the “incy wincy” tiny body of insects and beyond the
icky itchy feel, lies interesting and distinct characteristics. We had
“Leaf Critters” for Art & Craft where we used leaves with holes
made by insects or caterpillars’ bites. We painted on the leaves
and stamped them on papers. The children were excited at the
fascinating result. Through this activity, they exercised their fine
motor skills by gripping and controlling the brush and identifying
the primary and secondary colours mixed in the process.

rasanya. Ada juga yang menyatakan ianya seakan-akan ketupat
yang mereka menikmati semasa perayaan Hari Raya.
Term 4’s theme, “Things That Move”, taught the children the
movement of both living and non-living things. It involved the
investigation of movement in vehicles, animals as well as creepy
crawlies. The highlight of this term’s learning journey was learning
about butterflies.
The children found a caterpillar from the school’s Garden On Wheels
and decided to keep it in the classroom to observe its growth and life
cycle. This instilled important Science process skills such as observation,
communication and prediction . They also learned values such as care
for animals and responsibility.

Animal Prints
In October, children learned about animal
characteristics such as their colours, skin texture, food
and habitats as well animal prints and how they are
different from one another. In Art & Craft, the
children made their own animal prints from clay. They
were able to compare the differences and were excited
to see the trails they made as they stamped them on

“Zoo Goes to School” To wrap up Innovation Guidance Project (IGP) 2017, the centre had a couple of visitors
from the zoo, as part of the Zoo Goes to School Programme: Save Our Wildlife.
During the programme, K1and K2 children learned more about the animals that are
threatened by poachers and the parts that are being taken away by these poachers. The zoo
brought authentic specimens like the elephant’s trunk, the rhino’s horn, the tiger’s skin and
its claws. They even brought along a taxidermised pangolin for the children to see.
Children were given the opportunity to carry the elephant’s tusk and to touch the rhino’s
horn.
There was another special visitor during the programme. It was a hedgehog! Children were
thrilled as they touched the hedgehog and found out that its spikes were not prickly.

Happy Children’s Day! For this year’s Children’s Day celebration, the children went for a fieldtrip to
ArtScience Museum. It was a day filled with lots of fun, laughter and curiosity.
The Future World Exhibition allows children to immerse in the high tech futuristic
world of interactive artworks. For example, they were able to see their artwork alive as they
scanned their artwork into a machine and portrayed on the big screen. They are able to bring
their artwork home too as they scanned their artwork into a 3D artpiece.

Culture Week: “Tamil Kalachara” Prior to Deepavali celebration, KMBR had our last Culture Week for the year - Tamil
Kalacharam, to expose children to the Indian culture. They learned about Indian’s music
and dance such as ‘bhangra’ and classical, various food such as ‘prata’ and ‘muruku’ and
also on the Festival of Lights, such as the ‘rangoli’ and traditional clothes.
Since our Culture Week turned out to be a success at the childcare, we decided to also
expose our infants to some of the Indian culture during Tamil Kalacharam week.
Every child was given the opportunity to wear traditional clothes and created a lamp
craft with educarer’s guidance.

“Festival of Lights” The centre celebrated Deepavali on 17 October. The children, including infants, were all dressed up
in Indian clothes or their traditional costumes. During the celebration, children learned how
Deepavali came about and how it is known as the festival of lights. They even picked up new simple
Tamil words such as ‘oli’ which means light, ‘ataikal’ which means clothes and ‘Iniya Tipavali
Valtukkal’ which means Happy Deepavali. The teachers shared with them different traditional
Indian costumes and the sweet treats that are usually served during Deepavali; such as ‘laddoo’ and
‘burfi’. The infants joined in and were curious at seeing the older children participated in the various
types of activities.
Children were given the opportunity to make chapatti from scratch, mixing the chapatti flour with
water and kneading it on their own. There was also henna drawing for the children.

Community Garden Festival: Edible Trail @ Hort Park
KMBR was invited to Community Garden Festival ‘Edible Trail’ which is a 3-day long festival from
3 to 5 November 2017 at Hort Park. It is a yearly festival held to celebrate the passion and skills of
Singapore’s gardeners through various activities such as marketplace, design competitions and
garden displays.
On 3 November, N2 to K2 children had a first hand experience to see how edible plants grow and
to witness the vast number of plants at Hort Park. As soon as they arrived, they were mesmerised by
the centerpiece of a crimson bird made from edible fruits and vegetables. Children were able to
relate to their prior experiences of gardening at the centre as they found several plants familiar, such
as mint, lime and coriander, which are also found in KMBR’s very own Garden on Wheels.

Disposition Day: Care for Animals Day Jurong Bird Park Flies to School
KMBR had an outreach programme conducted by Jurong Bird Park Singapore for our
disposition day ‘Care For Animals Day’. The programme shared the conservation message
through an interactive dramatisation approach done by Dr Squawk as she went on an
exploration in search for tropical rainforest birds. Children learned about the strongest eggs
laid by the ostrich and tested its strength by stepping on them! They also learned about how
colourful plumage helps birds to survive in the forest. Finally, they learned about how to take
care of birds as pets and how important it is to show love and care for them.
