1. What is Human Resource Studies?

Central theme within the study of HRS

• Employment Relationship

• A reciprocal relationship between those who perform work or

services (employees, as well as those self-employed), and those who

offer employment in the aim of realizing organizational goals.

• Bachelor Human Resource Studies

• Master Human Resource Studies

• Premaster programm

Goals of the Premaster program

• Preparation for the master, to achieve a level that is comparable to

students bachelor Human Resource Studies (Many courses together

with bachelor’s students)

• Shortcomings are mainly in the area of:

1. Statistics and research methods

2. Academic attitude & academic skills

3. And also: Knowledge of HR Studies content, depending on

specific program.

• 1 & 2 more difficult to achieve than 3

Premaster program: Preparation for the Master (Msc)

• Research methods courses (3 x 6 ects):

• Quantitative (Statistics)

• Qualitative

• Academic Skills course (6 ects):

• Drafting your own research, empirical cycle

• Finding and reading academic literature

• Academic writing

• Research seminar (12 ects):

• Doing your own research (12 ects)

• Inegrate methods and academic skills

• Preparation for Master’s thesis

The premaster program

Block 1 & 2:

• Strategic Human Resource Management

• Practical Work Climate (Academic skills)

• MTO-1: Causal Analysis Techniques

• MTO-3: Qualitative Research Methods

• Managing Social Capital

• Mathemathics (Testimonial) (for students who don’t have VWO level degree in mathematics)

Block 3 & 4:

• MTO-2: Construction and Analysis of Questionnaires

• Research Seminar PEW (12 ECTS)

• Work, Wellbeing and Performance

1 Elective:

• Financial and Project Management (compulsory for students without economic background)

• Labor Law

• 60 credits (ECTS)• = 1,680 hours of study• Four blocks / year• Start: 1 September• Finish: 31 August.

• Assignments (individual; group)

• Small research (strategy scan)

• Empirical research (seminar)

• Writing theoretical paper

• Developing research design

• Oral presentation

• But also written exams

• (essay, multiple choice)

The premaster year in practice

Panel interviews with premaster students:

How many classes? 3 or 4 days per week

Many assignments, quite a lot of writing assignments

All literature is in English – a lot of reading

Long reading lists for exams, you have to make your own planning

Strong emphasis on research methods and academic skills

Use the opportunity to improve your English:

Courses at language center (vouchersystem)

On successful completion the premaster (60 ECTS), you will automatically be accepted onto the Master program Human Resource Studies for the following academic year.
