RINA INDONESIA OFFICE IN BATAM Main activities of RINA Batam Office are to
held surveys of ships within region of Indonesia, such as: Classification Surveys Including Classification
Surveys for Ships During Construction and for Ships Not Built Under Survey,
Class Maintenance Surveys including Statutory Surveys,
ISM (International Safety Management), ISM provides an international standard for the safe management and operation of ships and for pollution prevention.
SURVEY AND CERTIFICATIONClassification Survey

CLASSIFICATION SURVEY Survey for New Building
Visual and Scantling CheckScantling check is a verification process of construction’s size based on the drawing that have been approved by RINA as a reference, and match with the actual dimensions.
CLASSIFICATION SURVEY Survey for New Building
Welding CheckWelding check is an inspection of welding result on the new construction of ship when there is a weld defect.
CLASSIFICATION SURVEY Survey for New Building
Leak TestLeak test aims to test for leaks in the vessel body. There are 3 types of leak test, there are hydro test, air test, and hose test.
CLASSIFICATION SURVEY Survey for Ship in ServiceThis survey is survey for existing ship which will be registered in RINA, they must be surveyed first to ensure the society that the vessel are meet the requirements of safety for human life, environment, and property during the operational life of the ship based on RINA rules.

SURVEY ITEM Welding CheckWelding check is an inspection of welding result on the new construction of ship when there is a weld defect. There are many kind of weld defect, there are crack, porosity, undercut, undersize, slag, and spatter.

SURVEY ITEM Leak Test
Hydro TestHydro test conducted by pumping water up to 1.5 times the working pressure or design pressure. After that surveyor check the leak on the connection of flange pipe. If there is water on the connection of flange pipe, it means there is a leak.

SURVEY ITEM Leak Test
Air TestThe first step was filled the air inside the tank that to be tested. Then the outside sprayed using soapy water. Surveyor will monitor the outside of the tank thoroughly. If there were air bubbles on the surface of the tank, it indicates a leak.

SURVEY ITEM Leak Test
Hose TestProcess conducted is by spraying high-pressure water from the water jet pump in the area will be checked for leaks. Equipment needed is a water jet pump and a nozzle for spraying pressurized water.

SURVEY ITEM Inclining TestInclining test is a test to determine metacentric height.
Before we did inclining test, we checked draft on this vessel. At fore in starboard side show 1.04m, at port side show 1.08m, at after in starboard side show 1.50m, and at port side show 1.49 m. Draft should be measured before and after testing to assure that no major additions to the condition of the ship during the test.
There were four areas that placed ballasts. Each area had 6 ballasts, that a ballast had a weight 5.3 ton. It means an area had 21.2 ton ballasts.
Figure 24. Ballasts
SURVEY ITEM Inclining Test
This vessel had LPP = 42m. Vessel that had LPP > 32 use two pendulums to did inclining test, on fore and after.
When inclining test happen, the hull of the vessel was not allowed to touch jetty

SURVEY ITEM Safety Device Function Test
Bilge AlarmTechnician set up from day tank panel. When the red indicator lamp turned on, it means it worked on high level. But when the yellow indicator lamp turned on, it means it worked on low level.

SURVEY ITEM Safety Device Function Test
CompressorSafety device on compressor aims to decrease pressure inside the compressor to prevent the blow out. This safety device will release some air from the compressor automatically to release pressure when it reached maximum pressure
Figure 30. Compressor
SURVEY ITEM Safety Device Function Test
Emergency Lamp and Alarm (Black Out Simulation)This is simulation when black out happened in the vessel. Emergency lamp and alarm have to functioning properly. Technician turning off all of system or black out to testing emergency lamp and emergency alarm. Emergency lamp and alarm will turn on automatically when the system down.
Figure 31. Black Out Simulation
SURVEY ITEM Safety Device Function Test
Steering GearThe safety device function test aims to set maximum angle of rudder. This test conducted by drive rudder in captain room first, and surveyor check the angle at steering gear room. Rudder move by hydraulic system. Each rudder has limit switch. Limit switch is a safety device to limiting the angle of rudder

SURVEY ITEM Safety Device Function Test
Smoke DetectorSmoke detector is safety device for fire protection system. When there are smoke in the vessel, emergency alarm have to turned on automatically, to prevent
Figure 34. Smoke Detector
SURVEY ITEM Safety Device Function Test
Fire ExtinguisherFire extinguisher is also safety device for fire protection system. The test aims to know that the fire extinguisher functioning properly.

SURVEY ITEM Safety Device Function Test
Oil Water SeparatorOWS serves to separate water and oil, oil spills came from the engine. The separated water will be discharged into the sea. Water discharged into the sea should be qualified at less than 15 ppm.

SURVEY ITEM Safety Device Function Test
Engine Safety DeviceThis test aims to know that safety device functioning properly when the engine turned in over speed condition.

SURVEY ITEM Sea Trial
Progressive Speed TrialProgressive speed trial to be carried out to confirm the ship’s performance and cover the guarantee speed based on contract. Speed trial have been conducted over a recognized mile.

SURVEY ITEM Sea Trial
Turning Circle TestTurning test to be carried out to know ship’s turning performance and characteristics, and minimum diameter of ship turning.

SURVEY ITEM Sea Trial
Zig-Zag Maneuver TestZig-zag maneuver test to be carried out to investigate the maneuvering performance.

SURVEY ITEM Sea Trial
Steering Gear TestThis test to be carried out to measuring time at order given to operate the steering gear system. In main steering, move steering to 35º port and then 30º starboard using hydraulic pump, requirements of maximum standard time is 28 sec. In emergency steering, move steering to 25º port and then 15º starboard using steering wheel, requirements of maximum standard time is 60 sec.
SURVEY ITEM Sea Trial
Anchor TestThis test to be carried out to inspect the conditions of lowering, heaving, stowing, and to measuring time of hoisting speed at order given to operate it. The requirement of maximum standard of hoisting speed time is 9 min on 3 shackles.
CONCLUSION Class is expression of the degree of reliance a
ship deserves on the whole in relation to the service and trade on which the ship is engaged, or to be engaged.
Class gives credence to client, client in this case is shipping company, so that they are sure if the ship has met the criteria comply with the requirements, related to the service of ships.
