Division 4

2008/2009 Training Module 1

Meetings! Ya Gotto Go!

“The first meeting was held in the Garden of Eden. Eve called the meeting but hadn’t distributed an agenda. Adam wasn’t prepared to discuss the apple issue. The snake kept interrupting the meeting, playing Devil’s advocate. Jumping to the easiest alternative, a hastily sprung plan was put into action. Today we live with the ramifications of that first ineffective meeting.”George Hayler

Developing a Team!

Teamwork is the essence of life. If there’s one thing on which I’m an authority, it’s how to blend the talents and strengths of individuals into a force that becomes greater than the sum of it’s parts. My driving belief is this: Great teamwork is the only way to reach our ultimate moments, to create breakthroughs that define our careers, to fulfill our lives with a sense of lasting significance.Pat Riley – NBA coach

SUCCESSION

def: The act of following one’s predecessor in a post, position or title.

Succeed With a Process – Not a Program

From a book titled Primal Leadership

by Daniel Goleman

"If the going is tough and the pressure is on; if reserves of strength have been drained and the summit is still not in sight; then the quality to see in a person is neither great strength nor quickness of hand, but rather a resolute mind firmly set on its purpose that refuses to let its body slacken or rest.” - Sir Edmund Hillary

PLANNING def: Developing a formulated

scheme setting out stages of procedure.

Why is succession planning so vital to the mandate of the Kiwanis organization?

Planning

‘Excuse me, Sir.” Alice inquires. “Could you tell me which road to take?”

Wisely, the caterpillar asks, “Where are you going?”.

Planning

Somewhat dismayed, Alice responds,

“Oh, I don’t know where I am going, Sir.”

“Well," replied the caterpillar, “If you don’t know where you are going, it really doesn’t matter which road you take.”

Succession Planning …

• Develops quality club and division leaders

• Creates a trained, prepared, knowledgeable, leadership “pipeline”

• Renews leadership at all levels

Succession Planning …

• Makes our organization more attractive to potential members

• Provides development opportunities to our members

• Supports the success of our purpose “to serve the children of the world”

• The following slides provide an overview of the current Kiwanis succession plan
