The Wedding GarmentQuick Look

1. The One Who Invited (Matthew 22:2, 3,)

2. Those Who Were Invited (Matthew 22:5, 6, 10)

3. Those Who Were Investigated (Matthew 22:11, 12)

The Wedding Garment1. The One Who Invited

1. The One Who InvitedDays of Fervor {292}

It’s one thing to have a wedding. It’s another thing for a king to have a wedding.

And to be invited to a wedding put on by a king for his own son would have been a very

high honor indeed.The wedding imagery there, particularly of t

he son, is an obvious reference to the relationship between Jesus and His church.

The Wedding Garment2. Those Who Were Invited

2. Those Who Were Invited“Not Worthy” {294}

Have you ever noticed that some of the meanest, nastiest, and most hateful people

are professed Christians?Or that some of the most judgmental,

condemnatory, hypocritical, and downright evil people are those who go to church, who

claim the promises of salvation, and who profess assurance of salvation?

2. Those Who Were Invited“Not Worthy” {296}

It’s easy to say: these people weren’t real Christians. But how do you know? How can

you judge their hearts, what they were taught, what opportunities they had to know better?

What about the horrendous acts of those who turned out to be, it seems, pretty pious souls?

Who are we to judge hearts?

2. Those Who Were Invited“Not Worthy” {296}

We shouldn’t judge—but God does, should, and will (Romans 14:10;

Hebrews 10:30; Ecclesiastes 12:14; Daniel 7:9, 10).

Seventh-day Adventists call it the “investigative judgment,” and it is

revealed in this parable.

2. Those Who Were Invited“Not Worthy” {296}

The Wedding Garment3. Those Who Were Investigated

3. Those Who Were InvestigatedThe Wedding Garment {298}

This parable draws a distinction between being a member of a church and being a sinner saved by the righteousness of Christ.They clearly aren’t the same things, are they?

3. Those Who Were InvestigatedThe Wedding Garment {298}

Look at your life, your deeds, your actions, your words, your thoughts, and your attitude. Do they reflect someone wearing Christ’s robe of righteousness or someone who has just come to the feast?
