More often found in a hospital setting.

Works in the front office

Is the first person the patient sees

Verifies patient appointments

Copies insurance cards

Checks referrals

Directs patients to waiting area

Registering new patients and assisting with form completion

Retrieving charts

Entering patient data and demographics into a computer database

Performing various typing requests

Maintaining and filing treatment records

Preparing schedules

Calling patients with appointment reminders

Answering phones and routing messages

Calling the pharmacy for prescription order refills

Arranging for a patient's hospital admission.
