Active Window

The window currently in use. The title bar of the active window is always darker (or displayed in a different color) to distinguish it from the other open windows that may be visible in a tiled or cascaded screen

Application File

A file that is part of an application program, such as a word-processing program, a graphics program and so on

Computer Window

A unity program designed to help you find, view, and manage files easily and effectively

Data File

A file you create when working with an application program

Directory

A container for files and other directories. Windows 7 generally uses the term folder, while operating systems such as Linux use the term directory.

File Property

Characteristics that help you locate and organize files

Gadget

A small program such as a clock or calendar

Hidden File

A file like any other except it is not displayed in a folder window

Icon

A graphic image or symbol that represents applications (programs), files, disk drives, documents, embedded objects, or linked objects

Recycle Bin

A holding area for files and folders before their final deletion from a storage device

Shortcut

A pointer to an application or document file; double-clicking the shortcut icon opens the actual item to which the shortcut is pointing

System File

An essential file necessary for running Windows or another operating system
