Brown

Brown, chocolate, liver, or

parti-color schnauzers do not

meet breed standards. These

dogs are not allowed to

compete in the show ring,

even if they are registered

purebreds.

White Schnouzers have more recently

been granted admission to many show

rings in some countries, but white still

remains a disqualification in the USA.

Salt-and-pepper is dominant to black-and-

silver. A salt-and-pepper may carry the

gene for black-and-silver and produce the

colour when mated to another carrier.

There is a marker trait that often identifies

theses carriers - a small spot of white

directly above the nose!

•Black and Silver - The markings of a

black and silver Miniature Schnauzer

follow the same pattern as the salt &

pepper Schnauzer, except both the

topcoat and undercoat are solid black.

Beautiful silver white color accents areas

of face (beard and eyebrows) and on

legs, feet, and furnishings.

Today its more simple to find out the

genotype by DNA tests.

In salt & pepper there is a wide possible

combination of allels :

aw,aw

E,E

K,Kaw,at

E,e

Not all proposed alleles have been

proven to exist. The generally recognized

color loci in dogs are referred to as:

A (agouti), B (brown), C (albino series), D

(blue dilution) E (extension), G (graying),

M (merle), R (roaning), S (white spotting)

and T (ticking.)

The inheritance of coat color in minature

shnauzers in general, is very complicated

because there are many allels involved.

My recommendation is to do a DNA test to

the mother and the father so they have

identical genotype and their off spring will be

only salt and pepper.

Thank you for

your attention!!!
