Being together during the holiday season and having family
time is always great for mental health!
Before and After the holidays it can be stressful, and we
forget to spend quality time with those we love. While it’s
true that family is forever, it is important that the family is
healthy. Your family will be healthy if you give it time.
Family time is an essential factor that helps to create strong
bonds, love, connections, and relationship among the
family members. Spending quality time with family does
help in coping with challenges, instill a feeling of security,
inculcate family values, fill kids with confidence, and much
more!
The Mental Health Teams invites the community to draw a
moment or activity they enjoy/enjoyed doing with their
family to be entered in a draw to win a family fun box and
have your drawing shown in the newsletter!
Please ensure attached to the drawing is a full name,
contact phone number, and a little write up about what is
on the picture (adults may help with this part). Please bring
the pictures to the health centre addressed to Sabrina
(Child and Youth Counsellor).

PIKWAKANAGAN ODAMINOWINAN”
Omàmiwininì Pimàdjwowin is striving to achieve a lasting
legacy of Algonquin Language through the “Pikwakanagan
Odaminowinan” Project. Our goal is to create professional
quality resources and access to the Algonquin Language.
The approach to this language learning initiative is to use
games as a fun and practical way of learning Algonquin
language. Youth members of Pikwakanagan are key to
making this project a success and are invited to participate
in creating a board game based on Algonquin language
and culture. A number of copies of the game will be
produced and distributed accordingly.
The first workshop will take place at the Algonquin
Way Cultural Center on December 8 @ 11am. We will
be playing some games while brainstorming on the
type of board game we will be creating as well as
learning how to play the game using Algonquin
language. There will be lunch and snacks provided.
The next workshop will be chosen at a later date.
*The deadline for applicants is December 5th at 4pm. We
are accepting the first 10 applicants. To register or for
more information please contact Willy Dick at
OMÀMIWININÌ PIMÀDJWOWIN (Heritage Centre/

THANK YOU
Thank you to all who participated in the diabetes risk assessment events this month. If you did not have a
chance to fill out a diabetes risk questionnaire and want to discuss risk factors and what your level of risk is
for diabetes, please don’t hesitate to come see me at the health building. I am there Monday through
Thursdays. You can also call me to book an appointment at 613-625-2259 ext 233.
Here is the recipe for those delicious cookies we had at the Dining with Diabetes dinner a couple weeks
ago. (Found on the Diabetes Care Community website)
O.M.G. CHICKPEA CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
INGREDIENTS
1¼ cup canned chickpeas, well-rinsed and patted dry with a
paper towel
2 tsp vanilla extract
½ cup plus 2 tbsp (165 grams) natural peanut butter*
¼ cup (80 grams) honey
1 tsp baking powder
⅛ tsp of salt
½ cup (90 grams) semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips
DIRECTIONS
Preheat your oven to 350°F.
Combine all the ingredients, except for the chocolate chips, in a food processor and process until very
smooth, scraping the sides and the top to get the little chunks of chickpeas and process again until
they're combined.
Remove mixture to a bowl, and add chocolate chips. Mix.
With wet hands, form into 1½” balls.
Place on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet. If you prefer flatter cookies, press down slightly on the
balls. They don't do much rising or spreading.
Bake for 10-12 minutes or until slightly golden brown.
*If the peanut butter separates and the oil floats to the top, stir it before using.
Makes 24 small cookies.
