What to Expect in Photo I:

1. Respect• Mutual respect= professional working relationship ** No phones. They should be off and out of sight.**• Respect for the classroom and equipment

** Drinks with lids and snacks only when cleaned up!**** All personal belongings and trash cleaned up before leaving. **

2. Shooting Projects: 400 points each• This is how you practice what we learn!! You cannot

pass photography class if you don’t take photographs.

• 8-10 total in the year • Variety• 4 grades: Technical, Creative, Work Ethic, Oral

Critique

• DEADLINES!! • Best approach to photography

• “New Eyes”• Observing light• Multiple Angles• Challenging Yourself

3. Critiques• Talk about your work

- Connection to assignment, problems, solutions, things that worked well, questions, commendations/recommendations from the class

• SO much learning• Point deductions for being unexcused

absent• Must be made up before the end of the

quarter. • Everyone MUST participate!!!

4. Photo History Unit• Powerpoint on early photo history• Video series with questions about

American photo history • TEST at the end of the unit.• Research photographer: give oral

presentation.- Imitate your photographer

• Identify camera parts• Digital photography

terminology• Exposure: Shutter Speed,

Aperture, ISO

• Photoshop knowledge & skills• Composition

6. Organization• You need a BINDER

• SAVE handouts to use for photoshop information• SAVE notes to study for exams

7. 10 Photograph Final Portfolio : Final Exam

• Need to SAVE all digital files in YOUR folder, all year for final portfolio

• All students must complete a final portfolio- no exemptions!

8. Field Trips/ Guest Speaker(s)• Assignment shooting around CHS

and McIntire Park • Portrait field trip downtown• Guest speaker(s)• In-class workshops with local

photographers

9. A New Skill!• Skill for a hobby, job,

major in college• Photography connects to

other interests• Everyone takes photos• Everyone likes to look at

photos! Get better at it!!

10. Opportunity for an A or B!• Simple recipe= complete every assignment with EFFORT!• Not an “easy A,” but VERY achievable with EFFORT• ALL projects that meet expectations and is completed with EFFORT will earn passing grades.• What does EFFORT look like?

- Meeting ALL assignment expectations- Pushing yourself to try new things- Strive for perfection!- Variety of approaches, subject matter, angle

** NEW **• We will have class time to shoot all assignments in class. • You may have to bring items in, recruit friends to photograph, and think of other out-of-the box ideas to accomplish your projects as the year goes on..• Students with ALL work completed and turned will have the opportunity to check out a camera for a limited amount of time to take photographs outside of school.

Two reasons for this change:1.) ALL students should shoot ALL assignments: no excuses = higher grades and everyone passes2.) Reduces the loss of photography equipment by irresponsible students

11. Blogs• Every photography student will create a photo blog

which will be used to connect to a larger community.

• Current work• Inspirational work• Problems/ Solutions

12. Working with Studio Lights• In the spring you will use studio

lights to create an advertisement.

• This allows you to have complete control over your image!

13. FUN!!• Photography provides the opportunity

and reason to explore!-Explore places, people, events, details,

animals, objects, emotion, action• Meet new people• Have new experiences• Photography provides the

opportunity for everyone to explore their creativity.

Photography is an ELETIVE: Please elect to be here or

choose another class that you will like better!

Make sure you are committed to learning photography and all the expectations that come

with it!
