In the beginning…

• In 1901 Sarah Webb Pyle founded Peoples Settlement

Sarah Webb Pyle

• Sara Webb was born on 1869 in Wilmington, Delaware

• She died on March 4, 1959.

Sarah Webb Pyle School

• The Wilmington School board named what is now Sarah Webb Pyle middle school after her. The school was named for her before she died.

Mother of East Side

• She was known as the Mother of the East Side of Wilmington because of all of her good work.

• She Retired on 1952 and moved to Daytona Florida.

Now

They do community work for the east side of Wilmington

They give food and clothes to the people in need

They have a preschool program for the neighborhood

They help with financial payment.

More of what they do now

• They have a senior center

• They help find jobs and housing.

What they did then

• They assisted the European immigrants to make the adjustments to their new homes.

Mission

• The mission of Peoples Settlement Association is to improve the quality of the life the residents of the east side of Wilmington.
