State Animal

What is our state animal?

(Hint: They have antlers.)

State Animal

White Tailed Deer are herbivores.

Doe give birth to one to three fawns at once after the gestation period of seven months.

Bucks lose their antlers in the fall and they grow back in the spring.

The White Tailed Deer is the smallest deer family in North America.

State Insect

What is our state insect?

(Hint: It glows.)It’s easy , you

can do it.

There are two thousand Firefly species.

Fireflies are omnivores.

Fireflies love moisture and they often live in humid areas.

Some adult Fireflies don’t eat.

State Dog

What is our state dog?

(Hint: Scooby Doo is this kind of dog.)

A Great Dane is 28 to 34 inches tall.

Great Danes are tall short haired dogs that are very active.

The colors of the Great Dane are Brown Black and Blue-Black.

Great Danes are also called Grand Danois.

The Ruffed Grouse is also called Bonasa Umbellus.

A Ruffed Grouse is a member of the pheasant family.

The wing span is 22 to 25 inches.

Ruffed Grouse do not migrate.

It is in the Salmon family.

It has a green brown color with a marble design.

Most Brook Trout live in fresh water few live in salt water.

Tsuga Canadensis is the scientific name. The Eastern Hemlock grows well in shade

and lives long.

It is a native tree to eastern North America.

The wood is soft and it is air dried.

Kalmia Latifolia is comely know as Mountain Laurel. It is native to Eastern United States. The Mountain Laurel is a flowering plant in the blueberry Family. Mountain Laurel has alternate or whorled leaves.

The USS Brig Niagara was launched in 1813.

The ship was built on Presque Isle Bay, PA.

It is one of the last remaining ships from the War of 1812.

In 1913 it was rebuilt for the battle of Lake Erie

Phacops rana is a species of trilobite from the middle of the Devonian period.

It is up to 6 inches long.

Its habitat is rolling up into a ball like a Pill bug.

The state seal has a shield with a ship, a plow, and 3 bunches of wheat.

It is an important state symbol because it is the symbol of our state.

The coat of arms is surrounded by black horses on both sides, and a bald eagle.
