Never work on a PC while it is plugged into an outlet

Always unplug the PC before working inside the case

Low current high voltage• E.g. spark as you get out of car

Damages microcircuits Ways to prevent:

• anti-static strap worn while working on PC• anti-static mat placed on work bench• anti-static bags for packaging parts

Screwdrivers:• Philips head or cross head – most popular• Blade or flat - some uses• Torx – mainly laptop repair

Different sizes• Philips – medium and small• Flat – small• Torx – 10, 15, 20, 25

Multimeter – troubleshooting power supply

Network Cable Tester – troubleshooting cables

Use the right tool for the job Never over-tighten screws Look after the tools Replace damaged tools Buy quality tools

Every case is different Some cases are tool-less Manuals online Use forums Take your time the first time Take a break if you’re getting

frustrated

Unplug the PC Place on anti-static mat Look over the case, work out how to

open Decide what tools are required Open the case Put on anti-static strap and attach it

to a metal part of the case

NOTE: Only work on PC’s that are out of warranty.

Look at a computer case and work out how it is opened.
