Transcript

Our sun does not have a solid surface. Most of the energy comes from the coreand is radiated out to the surface like convection in boiling water. In the core H Is converted to He. When the sun runs out of H the core will shrink, He will be converted to O2 and C. The core will push out and the sun will cool to become a Red Giant.

Sun spots are darker because they are cooler

Astronauts wear suits when they go on spacewalks to protect them from extreme cold (dark side of planets can be -170C and the light side +200C.) Their visorsare darkened to protect them from UV rays from the sun.

Solar Wind:Created from the sun. How we know? Comet and asteroid tails always pointaway from the sun.

Our sun is on an 11 year cycle for solar flare activity. During violent activity the sun ejectsparticles that bend our magnetic field, interfering with our power lines, overloading them, causing power outages. This is also a time of increased Aurora Borealis.

Solar Flare:Solar flares are the most powerful explosions in the solar system. Packing a punch equal to a hundred million hydrogen bombs.
