THE FORMULA THAT CHANGED THE WORLD…

E = mc2

THE FORMULA THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR WORLD…

RESULTS = TASK + SKILLS + TOOLS

RESULTS =

The RIGHT Task

+The RIGHT Skill

+The RIGHT Tool

RESULTS =

Doing the RIGHT thing…

…the RIGHT way…

…using the RIGHT Tool

YOU ONLY DO THREE THINGS EACH DAY…

Attend meetings…

YOU ONLY DO THREE THINGS EACH DAY…

Perform a “known” task…

YOU ONLY DO THREE THINGS EACH DAY…

Handle unexpected

events

THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE CEO AND

OTHERS IN THE ORGANIZATION IS THE TIME SPENT IN EACH!!

80% of what you do everyday is habit…

good or bad!

TOP TEN TIMEWASTERS

1.Shifting Priorities/Crisis Management

2.Telephone Interruptions/E-Mail

3.Lack of Priorities/Objectives

4.Attempting too much

5.Drop-in visitors

6.Ineffective Delegation

7.Cluttered desk… losing things

8.Lack of self discipline… procrastination

9.Inability to say “NO”

10.Poorly run meetings

So… How do you choose what is the “Right” Thing?Planning based on “priorities”…

What do you, or your company want to accomplish with your life/efforts, i.e. what is your vision?

What can you do this year to make progress on that vision? What can you do this month to make progress on that vision? What can you do this week to make progress on that vision? What can you do today, right now, to get what you want from

your life?

Therefore, whatever you are doing, right now, should give you the life you want… if not, stop doing it!

SETTING PRIORITIES…

The process of making the tough but required decision of what is most important to you…

… and sticking with that decision and resulting action until it is done.

Make a list of things to do.

80% Set priorities and work on the most important until it is

completed.

40% Do it every day!

20% Do for 30 days. Send a check for what you think the advice was worth. $25,000

A = Commitments and promises due today; negative consequences if not completed.

B = Anything important but not due today.

ROAD RULES(cannot be broken!)

When you think of something, write it down… NOW!

Plan each day… the day/evening before.

What does it mean to “plan” the next day?

Determine what time sensitive commitments or appointments you have made and block the time.

Determine what activities you plan to attempt in between those appointments. Those who do not plan over-estimate the time available to complete their “to-dos”. The average person is “interrupted” 50% of each day.

WHAT CAN YOU CONTROL?

Where you commit your time, i.e. appointments with others and yourself

The activities you choose to do, i.e. the “to-do” list

How you handle information… how you receive it, where you store it and where you can retrieve it

Your workspace… organized or chaotic?

DELEGATION

Plan before you delegate…What are you going to delegate? What do you expect and by when?

Assign the delegation… delegate to people who can actually do the job

Tell them why it is important to you

Set a due date and communicate expectations in writing

DELEGATION

Ask what they need to accomplish the task and/or what could get in their way… deal with any obstacles.

If the delegation has a long time frame, set checkpoints and follow-up to determine, at that time, if anything will prevent on-time completion

REWARD/RECOGNIZE… results that get recognized get repeated!!

DESK/PAPER/E-MAIL MANAGEMENT

DO IT

DUMP IT

DELEGATE IT

DECIDE WHEN YOU WILL DO IT… AND FILE

THE “TOOL” QUESTION… Paper Pocket Electronic Blackberry Phones PDAs Computers Online Laptops

HOW DO YOU DO ALL THIS?

Your “UNIQUE ABILITY”…

- Dan Sullivan, “The Strategic Coach”

WHAT IS YOUR JOB?

1.Establish and communicate the vision, mission and values/culture of the organization.

2.Hold everyone accountable for agreed upon results

3.Establish and maintain the key relationships critical to the organization

4.Choose and develop your direct reports
