“Oh, Missionary”

To the tune of “Oh, Susana”

words by Tim Scott, June 2007

Oh, Missionary!

You’re soon to cross the sea!

You’re going to share with others

that they need to be ready!

From many lands, a motley band,

to Andrews we have come,

But after lunch, they teach us much,

we may remember some!

Oh, Missionary!

You’re soon to cross the sea!

You’re going to share with others

that they need to be ready!

He was leader, with name Lester,

a thin, mustache-ed man,

He talks to us of Philippines,

and also Pakistan.

Oh, Missionary!

You’re soon to cross the sea!

You’re going to share with others

that they need to be ready!

Now Cheryl too, we heard from you,

of a son who learned real slow,

He got ahead, we heard you said,

Our kids will bloom, we know!

Oh, Missionary!

You’re soon to cross the sea!

You’re going to share with others

that they need to be ready!

And from Brazil, then came Gisele,

and Wagner to Azerbaijan,

Those lessons suit, this Institute,

it all was just “right-on”!

Oh, Missionary!

You’re soon to cross the sea!

You’re going to share with others

that they need to be ready!

Ann told her life, of joy and strife,

a very forth-right “shrink”!

But was that test, the very best?

At least you made us think.

Oh, Missionary!

You’re soon to cross the sea!

You’re going to share with others

that they need to be ready!

Let us all show, before we go,

thanks that go to Enid,

The staff right here, we want to cheer

for everything you did!

Oh, Missionary!

You’re soon to cross the sea!

You’re going to share with others

that they need to be ready!

Now Zacchaeus, with wife and kids,

whose names we cannot say,

To Kenya go, to teach we know,

you came from Zimbabwe.

Oh, Church Members,

please go and pray for me!

For I’m a missionary

and I’m often on my knees.

Tim and Fay, we have to say,

you’ve been to many places!

You’d better stop, before you drop,

we see this on your faces!

Over at one table, they’re ready and able

Koreans families two,

Kim is the name, for both the same.

preach Jesus they will do!

Julie and Bill, we know you will,

bless others every day.

Loma Linda, California,

to India where you’ll stay

Yvonne will leave, grasping the sleeve,

of husband Rich real quick!

In Lebanon, your culture gone,

new foods might make you sick!

In AIIAS far, they do not bar,

the missionary teams,

With husband Ron, Shawna has gone,

to teach and sing, it seems!

In America, Cecilia

and Jozimo now will stay.

You’ll see this guy, at ADRA I,

in an office every day.

Nada and Mike, you’ll learn a trike,

can take you from your home.

In Philippines, you’re life it seems,

will change just like this poem.

So Brooks and Sue, what can we do?

We know not what he’ll say!

For while we sit, we love your wit!

But soon you’ll fly away.

Oh, Church Members,

please go and pray for me!

For I’m a missionary

and I’m often on my knees.

At the GC, we just might see,

the youth guy Jonatan.

He came from Spain, found things a pain!

Wife Daniela is Italian.

Eisia tells Ron, “you’re often gone,

to work in So-mal-ia!”

“I want to say, for you today,

to stay home in Kenya!”

Nancy, Néstor, when at the store,

in US, when they came,

They could not pay, we heard them say,

“Things are just not the same!”

So friends you know, they need to go,

to cure so many needs!

Angélica, Doctor Elmer,

we pray God bless your deeds!

He did get sick, their son Eric,

he’s looking for a school!

He’s now okay, this TCK,

he thought Maxwell was cool.

And Gideon, and Sophia,

with both your children, too,

In Silver Spring, may God please bring,

His blessings all to you!

The group of six, will go and mix,

in Guam to do the chore!

The island’s small, but they’ll grow tall,

Robbie and Cindy’s four!

For Chrys and Mark, ‘twill be a lark,

to stay in Maryland,

At ADRA I, they will reply,

“an Aussie’s joined our band!”

Oh, Church Members,

please go and pray for me!

For I’m a missionary

and I’m often on my knees.

We got a call, and now we all,

too soon are going to fly.

The friends we’ve made,

new bonds are laid.

We hate to say good-bye!

Oh Church Members,

we need your prayers again,

We’re off to preach God’s goodness,

and to also battle sin!

When sinners burn, at Christ’s return,

we’ll gather there in heaven.

To laugh in gales, and share the tales,

of places where we’ve been!

Oh Church Members,

we need your prayers again,

We’re off to preach God’s goodness,

and to also battle sin!
