What is Open Data?

“Open data is a philosophy and practice requiring that certain data be freely available to everyone, without restrictions from copyright, patents or other mechanisms of control…”

- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_data

“Open data is data that can be freely used, reused and redistributed by anyone – subject only, at most, to the requirement to attribute and sharealike.”

- OpenDefinition.org

Conditions for Open Data:

To be open, data must be accessible online, published without technical restrictions to re-use, and provided under a license that allows the data to be re-used without limitation, including across different "fields of endeavour" (i.e. commercial and non-commercial alike).
