NORSOK Z standards for Technical Information (Z-TI)ROLV WERNER ERICHSEN/ROBERT SKREDEBJØRN BERLI

23rd and 24th May 2018

The NORSOK Z-TI initiative addresses the challenge that current documentation requirements and way of working with standards drive cost on NCS

• Oil and Gas operators pay 20%-30% more for the same products, compared to other industries

• A significant share of this difference is related to specifications and documentation requirements

• The additional cost on NCS was NOK 50 billion in 2016

• Several examples also show that requirements does not sufficiently improve safety

3

Opportunities to improve quality and efficiency in existing work processes and cooperation through digitalization has not been captured widely in the industry

“This initiative is important for achieving lasting improvements. I would urge the industry to support the project.”

Terje Søviknes Oil and Energy Minister, Norway

Recommendations for Digital field development process

• Purpose full collaboration to harvest effects of digitalisation

• Standardised digital plant information

• …accelerating the current digitalisation of the NORSOK standards – particularly NORSOK Z-TI

4

NORSOK Z-TI – Current status• Current NORSOK Z-TI standards are basically outdated (from the late 90'ies)− Revision of these standards recommended as high priority in the NORSOK analysis

• NORSOK Z-TI revision objective: Enabling requirements distribution and information flow through the value chain, over the life cycle of installations

• Initial scoping has identified an opportunity to fully digitalize these standards to create a competitive advantage for the Norwegian oil & gas industry

• The project will be demanding and the funding requirements will exceed the Sector Board of Petroleum Standardization's budgetary limits

• Work is in progress to establish a JIP with broad industry participation and DNV-GL as the project manager− JIP funding approx. 20 – 30 mill NOK in cash with equivalent in-kind amounts for a two year duration− DNV-GL very experience in managing JIP's and will also participate in this JIP

• Targeting Sector Board of Petroleum Standardization endorsement of the JIP in the March 2018 meeting− Governance− Participant fees− IP− etc

• JIP launch May 2018

The problems are……

• Requirements are analogue and company specific

• Documentation is company specific

• Software solutions are proprietary

• Verification of requirements are manual

• Re-use of concepts and solutions are analogue

Requirements and standards are available as text in documents, hence only understandable to humans not computers.

Requirements are translated manually into systems and software to make them understandable to computers.

Requirements represented in a language understandable to computers and humans.

Individual requirements are uniquely referable and identifiable.

Complete consistency checks using automated reasoning.

Systematic support for automated verification.

NORSOK Z-TI: Digital requirements and exchange of technical information through the value chain

• Reduced and standardized requirements, enabling automation of knowledge work and being an opportunity for increased value creation through digital services.

• Competitive advantage for Norwegian industry, removal of established, but undocumented requirements, and establishing methodology and tools for traceability and consistency in requirements.

• Addressing digital requirements will also include requirements for information management and information transfer. This digitalization will be important elements in automation of work processes and decision support.

NORSOK Z-TI provides a common foundation for change

It’s up to the participants and the industry to realise the potential values

• A common language for digital requirements and asset vocabularies

• A scalable way of capturing and structuring true digital requirements

• Information sharing in line with Konkraft’s recommendations for the digital field development process

• Updated and digitalised NORSOK requirements to Technical Information(Z-TI standards)

• Relevant parts of the deliverables will be fed into international standards like ISO/IEC

Z-TI deliverables: Digital framvwork for requirements management and requirements distributionEksempel på selskapspesifikk løsning:

• Digitalt rammeverk for kravforvaltning

• Katalogbasert
