In 2012, the Nipigon WPCP used 11,006 litres (L) of Poly Aluminum Chloride, with an average dosage of 12.27 mg/L. The primary purpose is for phosphorus removal and a secondary benefit is pH control.
Beginning January 1, 2013 the Wastewater Systems Effluent RegulaXons came into effect. The only impact on 2012 was to modify the sampling program for 2013. IniXal review for the federal regulaXon would imply the following needs to occur in 2013:
1. Submit an IdenXficaXon Report to the Effluent Regulatory ReporXng InformaXon System by May 15, 2013;
2. Prepare a Quarterly Report and submit with 45 days of the end of the quarter, the first report is due May 15, 2013;
3. Prepare a 2013 Annual Report and submit by February 15, 2014; and,
4. Revised the sampling plan on January 1, 2013 to include analysis of un-‐ionized ammonia, pH and Total Chlorine Residual in the effluent.
Generally, all sewage collecXon systems experience inflow and infiltraXon. Typical design criteria for inflow and infiltraXon is 10% of water flow. This is of significance because it would indicate that there are minimal, if any, combined sewers which was confirmed when the sanitary sewer collecXon system was video inspected in 2009 and 2010.
The influent flow to the Nipigon WPCP is greater than the raw water flow from the Nipigon WTP. The influent flow is approximate 9.3% greater than the water taken from the Nipigon River and provided to the WTP.
In 2012, the average day raw water flow to the Nipigon WTP from the Nipigon River was 741 m3.
Total influent flow to the Nipigon WPCP in 2012 was 295,886 m3 with an average day flow of 808.4 m3.
The new sludge storage lagoon is 39 m long by 33 m wide with a working depth of 2.8 m with a total sludge storage capacity of 1500 m3 .
