Rebar is a San Francisco based art/design
collective and interdisciplinary studio operating
at the intersection of art, design and ecology.
Founded by Matt Passmore, John Bela, Blaine
Merker and Teresa Aguilera, Rebar’s mission is to
create objects, spaces and ideas that inspire people
to re-imagine the environment and our place in it.
Rebar is known for guerilla-style public space
interventions including Park(ing) Day , which
transforms parking spots into mini one-day parks.
Ultimately welcomed by San Francisco’s Mayor and
its Director of City Greening, Park(ing) Day effectivelyinitiated an urban design revolution in its home city
and has since grown into a global movement.
Rebar will present examples of their recent work
and discuss the role of user-generated urbanism in
shaping the contemporary metropolis.
