Have you had questions about Accreditation and Certification? Richard Miller will discuss public library accreditation and Library Board of Trustees certification. Laura Johnson will talk about the librarian certification program. They’ll cover why these programs are important, what they can do for you, and just how they work. • Meant to improve library service by strengthening libraries

• Program started in 1986, by concerned librarians across the state

• Gives libraries a set of standards to work toward

Why be Accredited?

• Eligible for federal aid• Eligible for state aid• Eligible to apply for Library Improvement

Grants, Youth Grants, and Continuing Education Grants

To Be AccreditedInitially• The Commission will send

you a letter around July 15

• You go through the list of requirements.

• If you have met the requirements, send in the application by Sept. 1.

At Renewal• The Commission will send

you a letter around July 15

• You go through the list of requirements.

• If you have met the requirements, send in the application by Sept. 1.

Essential Level = 26 Things

Enhanced Level = Essential + 18 Enhanced Things

Excellent Level = Essential + Enhanced + 14 Excellent Things
