AT A GLANCE• Age: 28• Location: Lives a 15-minute walk from only supermarket within city limits • Life Stage: Lives with two young kids and on-again-off-again boyfriend• Job: Cleaner at a downtown hotel; walks to work

MOTIVATIONS• consistently providing enough food for her family—high quantity for low cost• foods that are easily located, to minimize time actually in the grocery store• foods that are easy to prepare• foods that will keep her kids healthy

BEHAVIORS• shops immediately following paycheck (every other week)• shops with two kids in tow• looks for inexpensive foods and items on sale 

NEEDS• cost—foods that fit her budget• sustenance—foods that provide enough calories to fill her kids’ bellies• nutrition—foods that will not lead to obesity, diabetes, etc.• efficiency—foods that are quickly found, easily transported home, and quickly

prepared• choice—foods that delight her as preparer and delight her kids as consumers
