AMY D. RONNER - DOSTOEVSKY AND THE LAW - Apr 23 8pm. In 1849, Fyodor Dostoevsky, already a known novelist, was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death for
treason. After about eight months in prison, officials paraded him and others into a public square and tethered them to execution posts
before a firing squad. Just before discharging their fatal shots, the soldiers received a command to halt. By order of Nicholas I, the great
Russian novelist and fellow prisoners were spared and their death sentences commuted to terms of hard labor and exile in Siberia. After
serving his sentence, Dostoevsky, permitted to return to St. Petersberg, wrote some of the greatest masterpieces in world literature. His
experience in Siberia, where he lived in close proximity with convicts, political prisoners, and others punished for crimes they did not commit,
shaped his life and career. It not only gave him insight into the workings of the human psyche, but also fostered what could be characterized
as an obsession with criminal justice, convicts, and suspects. Although Dostoevsky wrote in the nineteenth century, his genius transcends
time to shed light on our own justice system and legal doctrines. Through a legal lens, this book examines several of Dostoevsky's works,
including Crime and Punishment, The Double, Notes from the House of the Dead, Demons, and Brothers Karamazov, to show how they
transmit relevant and timely messages about our mental capacity doctrine, confessions, legal system, and prisons. About the Author: Amy D.
Ronner, PhD, JD, is a Professor of Law at St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, Florida, where she teaches Constitutional Law, Wills
and Trusts, and Criminal Procedure. In addition to her law degree from the University of Miami, she has a PhD and an MA in English
Language and Literature from the University of Michigan. Her BA degree is from Beloit College. Before becoming a lawyer, Dr. Ronner
enjoyed her first career as a teaching fellow and lecturer in the literature departments at the University of Michigan and University of Miami.
Dr. Ronner is the recipient of numerous awards and honors from the legal community and from her law and graduate school years. She is
also the author of several books on topics like law, literature and therapeutic jurisprudence, appellate practice, LGBT rights, and English
literature. One of her books, Homophobia and the Law (American Psychological Association Books, 2005), was the recipient of an academic
book award. Dr. Ronner has also published more than forty articles dealing with Dostoevsky, literature, law, therapeutic jurisprudence,
criminal procedure, human rights, constitutional rights, and LGBT rights. Dr. Ronner has been a guest lecturer at Dostoevsky, Russian
literature, law, mental health, and therapeutic jurisprudence conferences all over the world.

KRIZIA G. COLEMAN - THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM - Apr 24 2015 6:30 pm. This book has helpful tips for new parents, health tips and issues we deal with during
pregnancy and parenting. Have you wondered about the psychological, emotional and physical aspects of pregnancy and parenthood? Look no
further. The psychological aspect of what's "O.K" to feel or what "not" to feel during pregnancy and parenthood, and what to expect and what to
deal with during this first crucial year of parenthood. It covers your entire family! The Elephant in the Room also covers very important tips for
new dads to understand what exactly 'Mom' is going through as well as helpful guidelines to have a functional household once your baby arrives.
What do you really need for your new baby, the hospital and how much could your new baby actually cost? Find it here along with pertinent
information on vaccines and other alternative medicines available. More information on this informative book and other important matters for new
& existing parents are found on the author's blog at www.MommysKnowledge.com About the Author: Krizia earned an associate degree in
journalism, but she has always been writing something throughout her life. Whether it was a song or a poem, she has always had something to
say and a strong, practical opinion on things that really mattered most to her. Now as a mother, Krizia found herself at a point in her life when
everything she knew had changed. In the last semester of her master's in art, Krizia stopped teaching to finish her degree. The news of a baby
took her life by storm and sent her in a new direction completely. Going from being a fastpaced, independent woman with a goal in her life to a
dependent, engaged woman finishing up school with no chance to work once she graduated took a big toll on her plans. She knew one thing for
sure: that her life was going to change drastically. She was the first of her friends to have a child, so no one really took her under her wing to help
much. Just a few tips here and there from family were all she knew. Reading a lot of baby books while pregnant, she found that none of them
prepared her for the psychological changes of pregnancy and parenthood. This made her want to write a book based on the psychological aspect
of pregnancy and parenthood to help people with the hard first year a parent actually goes through, hoping to touch other parents' lives and make
this process a lot easier. The book focuses on the subjects that most people do not want to talk about: the truth about life and being a parent-to-
be and a new parent.

DAY OF THE BOOK AND THE ROSE - SANT JORDI Apr 25 5-7:30pm. Catalan, is the language spoken in the Mediterranean side of present Spain (approximately 1/3 of
the its present territory). Taught in 166 universities worldwide, it was the original language of the Catalonia-Aragon Kingdom that along
with Castile formed Spain. With its cultural capital in Barcelona, it is vibrant, with over 100,000 published books per year. Catalan is
according to the UNESCO the 10th language in the world by titles translated to, and 14th translated from. It is also active in the Internet,
being the 8th language used in the blogosphere, and according to GOOGLE the 10 to 15 in total presence in the internet. That vibrancy is
remarkable, as with a modest 10 million speakers it is just the 75th language in the world by number of speakers. Besides, it has not its
own country, thus it makes it the minority language most widely published and used in Internet in the world. Part of the Catalan
culture is the celebration of the Day of the Book and The Rose on April 23 On that festive day books and roses are bought, offered,
given and exchanged. Books & Books and the Casal Català de Miami-Florida (The Catalan House of Miami-Florida) is bringing the Day of
the Book and The Rose to Miami on Saturday, April 25. Key books in English about Catalan culture, history and politics will be on sale
along with book exchange and a Sant Jordi workshop for kids. Planned activities: 5-5:30 PM Welcome and poetry recital, 5-6:30 PM
Sant Jordi workshop for kids, 5:30-7:30PM Book exchange.
