MUSICAL GENRES
Genre is the composer's intention when he or she creates a new piece of music.
Music can be divided into different genres in many different ways.

Vocal genre Vocal music is a genre of music performed by one or more singers,
with or without instrumental accompaniment, in which singing provides the main focus of the piece.
Music without any non-vocal instrumental accompaniment is referred to as a cappella.
INSTRUMENTAL GENREInstrumental music which, as its name suggests , is run entirely based instruments, with no vocal accompaniment . The melodies lack composing a letter, without this resulting from lower quality to the songs you usually can hear in the media or shows.
MUSICAL AND INSTRUMENTAL GENRE
This genre applies to music that requires a combination of voices and
instruments.
RELIGIOUS GENREReligious music (also sacred music) is music performed or composed for religious use or
through religious influence.
There are two types
Liturgical Non-Liturgical
LITURGICAL MUSIC: the music that is composed for religious ceremonies.
NON-LITURGICAL MUSIC: music of a religious character composed for religious purpose, but which is not part ofthe liturgy such as christmas carols.
PROFANE GENREAll music is designed to be sung, played or performed outside of liturgical or religious contexts.

cultural context. They reflect the
cultural context of the time and the
composer’s personal thoughts.
Folk MusicWhich includes popular folk music from a specific area.
Light MusicWhich includes mainstream music of a marked commercial character.
FUNCTONAL GENRE
This genre applies to music that serves as a
backdrop to importants events, such as
commemorations, shows and open
ceremonies.
CINEMATOGRAPHIC GENREAt the beginning of this
genre, the musical piece was intended to impress, without
maintaining much connection with the
narrative development . However it is used to
reinforce the film’s message, maximising the sentiments
and the emotions in the script.
THEATRE GENREIt is a form of theater combining
music , song, dance and dialogue , and shown on big stages
Advertising Genre
It tries to get people to choose certain products
by combining pictures and
suggestive music to catch the attection of
potential buyers.
