Multivariate Hybrid Visualisation of Ornithological Sensor Data

Visualising a large amount of animal tracking data. Cormorant - (Shag)

Diving Sea Bird Over 40 species Wing span of 45–100 centimetres Body weight of 0.35–5 kilograms

Introduction

Rory Wilson – Daily Diary Data ‘The Black Box’ approach Albatross, badgers, cheetahs,

cormorants, dogs, horses, penguins, sharks, sunfish, and turtles.

Cormorant Dataset Eight Hours of data 12 Streams of data

Dataset

Accelerometer (X,Y, & Z) Hall Sensor - Records movements of the beak Pressure Sensor IR Sensor - Records the speed of the bird underwater. Compass (X,Y, & Z) Temperature Sensor Light Sensor Pitch & Roll Sensor VeDBA

Visualisation Overview

Isolates the required features in the data Separates the dives into their dive stages. Visualises the complete dataset in one frame

without over-plotting.

Future Work: Additional levels to the visualisation. Add a sort option to the overview. Use additional animal dataset.
