Working with Windows Movie Maker

WHAT IS WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER?

Windows Movie Maker is a movie creation, editing and sharing application provided within the Windows Live Essentials suite of software utilities. Windows Movie Maker allows users to build movies from photos, videos and animations, providing built-in sounds and effects like typical movie-making software.

WHAT IS THE ESSENCE OF WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER?

You can use Windows Movie Maker to capture audio and video to your computer from a video camera, Web camera, or other video source, and then use the captured content in your movies. You can also import existing audio, video, or still pictures into Windows Movie Maker to use in the movies you create. After editing the audio and video content in Windows Movie Maker, which can include adding titles, video transitions, or effects, you can then save your final movie and share it with friends and family.

GETTING STARTED WITH WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER

1.Open Windows Movie Maker from “All Programs” on the Start menu, or click the Windows Movie Maker Icon on your desktop.

2.Click on the "Tasks" button on the top to open the "Movie Tasks" bar on the left.

3.Make sure the program is in timeline mode. You should see a place below for Video, Audio/Music, and Title Overlay. If you see a horizontal line of boxes, press Ctrl+T.

4. Under the "Capture Video" category, click "Import video" to start uploading videofiles to Windows Movie Maker.

5. Browse for and select the files that you want to include in your video.

7. To cut a video file into two pieces, play the video file and pause it at the place you want to cut it. Then, click the "Split" button below the video playing area, or press Ctrl+L. You can do this either in the timeline or in the "Collections" area.

8. To upload picture files, such as for a slideshow, click "Import pictures" and follow the same procedure. To reduce or increase the length of time a picture plays, drag the ends of the picture file in the timeline.

9. To add a music or other sound file, click "Import audio or music". Drag it to the "Audio/Music" area of the timeline.

10. To add an effect to a picture or video file, such as grayscale, film age, fade in, speed up, etc., right click the file in the timeline and click "Add Video Effect". You can also click "View Video Effects" in the sidebar under "Edit Movie" and drag an effect onto the desired file in the timeline.

11. See the left sidebar for additional options, like adding transitions and credits.

12. Add title or credits by clicking on the appropriate link on the left panel. To add credits, there is a big empty bar on the form; you should put either the title of the movie, or credits. The left side of the form should go positions, like Director, or Producer, or the character. Then, the right side, will be the names of the people that play or direct in their position.

13. Click the view “timeline” and you should see the time line with the song, the title, the clips, and the effects and transitions. Then, you can view the movie that you have created by pressing play on the left panel with the screen.
