How it is possible to obtain an associates degree while in high school:

Here is the whole 4 year plan. The next pages will detail each year.

Most student begin the program with Advanced Placement United States History in 9th grade. It is accompanied by Digital Literacy – an AP support class to develop writing skills.

Students in band or chorus may need to take PE in 12th

grade.

10th grade students take 2 Advanced Placement courses – Psychology and United States Government and Politics.

In the fall they will take the ACCUPLACER test, the placement test for Montgomery College to earn scores needed to be eligible to take classes.

In the second semester students take MUSC 117 or 131, their first MC class. It is taught at Northwood on alternating days with AP Psychology.

In the summer students take MC HLTH 105 for both MC and MCPS health credit.

11th grade is a rigorous year. Students take Advanced Placement English Literature & Composition, World History, and either Biology or Chemistry. They may also take Advanced Placement Calculus AB or BC depending on their math level.

They also take 2 Montgomery College classes on alternating days (mo-we and tu-th) each semester for a total of 12 credits.

In the summer before 12th

grade most students will take pre-requisites for upper level classes to ensure that they are able to meet the 200 level credit requirement of the core subject area that they choose.

Students may also take MC courses to make up for Advanced Placement scores that were not high enough to earn credit.

12th grade students take Advanced Placement English Language and Composition. They may also take Phys Ed or other high school credits they need if they decided to take other electives in previous years.

Then they go to a Montgomery College campus, typically Takoma Park or Rockville, to take the courses they select to complete their core credits.
