Recruit • Most PHACS site staff and CAB members recruit directly at
the site:• Using flyers/posters• During study visits• From other CABs/community organizations at the study
site.
• Recruitment may occur at:• Schools;• Places of worship; and• Public health events.

parents/caregivers they know from other community groups or clinic visits.
• CAB Members may recruit new members from:• Similar community groups;• Their family and friends;• Clinics; and/or• Local public health events.

Language• Interpreter for CAB meetings; and• Translate CAB meeting minutes/materials.
Stigma, Attitudes, and HIV Disclosure• Confidential space;• Site staff to help run meetings; and• Confidentiality contracts.

• Recruit young people; and• Set up summer camps and afterschool groups for
young adults..
Conflicting schedules• Schedule meetings in the evenings;• Providing teleconferencing options; and• Schedule meetings around a meal.

• Set up child-friendly areas at meetings; and• Ask for site staff or CAB members to volunteer to
supervise childcare during meetings.

Example: The mission of the PHACS CAB is to serve as a connection between
researchers and community members in order to improve and optimize clinical
research studies for children/families who are participants, and who are most
affected by the re-search.

funding.• Be mindful of state and institutional rules
and regulations about funding.• Some materials for CAB activities may be
donated.• Talk to the site Principal Investigator about
funding specifics.

following:• Food/drinks at CAB meetings• Materials for CAB meetings• Classes and workshops• Resources• Raffle prizes• Incentives• Childcare and childcare materials• Transportation reimbursement
Some sites have looked for additional support through fundraising to help pay for extra activities. There are many ways to fundraise!
• Holiday activities like gift wrapping for donations, or handmade holiday cards
• Letters to local business• Support ribbons• Bake sales
In some cases, fundraising can be used to support outside needs in the greater community.
