How do we determine if a country is a MDC or a LDC?

Human Development Index (HDI): A composite statistic of life expectancy, education and per capita income indicators, which are used to rank countries.

“Composite statistic?”

● Gross Domestic Product● Literacy Rate● Life Expectancy

Highest HDI Possible = 1.0 or 100%

Economic Factors: GDPGross Domestic Product (GDP): The total value of goods produced and services provided in a country during one year.

GDP per capita: Divides a country’s GDP by its total population

Why would GDP tell us if a country is developed or not?

ExamplesU.S GDP $18.57 Trillion Dollars GDP per capita $57,400.00

UK GDP $2.622Trillion Dollars GDP per capita $42,514.49

Afghanistan GDP: $19.47 Billion dollars GDP per capita $561.00

GDP per capita total amount of goods and services produced in a country divided by the total population of that country.

End result is the value of the average person's production in their country for a particular year.
