Do YOU have what it takes to take on a leadership role in the
PTSA? Answer: Yes you do! We need you! The PTSA cannot continue to do the work it does without a full board and standing chair roles filled. The following are elected
PTSA Board positions that still need to be filled:
President (must have) Co-VP Communications
Co-VP Volunteers In addition, we need to fill the following (not elected) standing
chair positions:
Advocacy Family and Community Engagement (FACE)
Issaquah Schools Foundation (ISF) Room Parent
What happens without a functioning PTSA? We risk losing essential programs: Art Docent, Science Fair, Art Walk, Culture
Night, Popcorn Fridays, Walkathon, Robotics, Math Club, Spooky Spaghetti, Eager Reader and much, much more! Come be a part
of the wonderful team that makes these things come to life!

Spotlight on: Discover Art
Discover ART is the engaging, fun & easy to use Art Docent program sponsored by the Endeavour
Elementary PTSA. This curriculum was created eight years ago in partnership with Museo Art
Academy, thanks to an ambitious Art Docent, Stacy O'Daffer. She recognized the need for
more structure so that ANYONE who had the time and interest could be an Art Docent, not
only those with artistic backgrounds or skills. A grant from the Issaquah Schools Foundation was
also crucial to making this wonderful program a
reality.
From Painting and Drawing, to Ceramic and Glass (fired in a kiln on-site), to Printmaking, to varieties of mixed media; your children are exposed to art in a meaningful and fun way.
In addition to different media, your children learn about artistic concepts like line, texture, color, form, etc. (Some of us Art Docent's learn too!)
Discover Art by the numbers:
* 54 Art Docents volunteer in 31 classrooms * 5-7 projects per classroom per year (totaling over 180 projects)
* Approximately 1 ton of clay and 5 gallons of glaze used in ceramic projects each year
* Glass projects use enough glass to fill a large picture window * ~100 kiln firings for glass and clay each year
* 100% funded by your PTSA and 100% supported by volunteers * Over $4300 raised with classroom projects in this year's Auction
Discover Art is just one of the many ways in which Membership Matters. If you haven't yet joined the PTSA, you still can -- Plus, your Washington State PTSA benefits won't expire
until October so you can still get the summer's worth out of them! Also, look out for the opportunity to volunteer next year -- being an Art Docent is an extremely satisfying way
to contribute to your child's classroom.
Let's put a big shout out to the behind the scenes crew: Geneva Tracy, who's been
involved in the program for years and lead the team this year to make some major changes to bring in some excitement ; Kathy Pelham who tirelessly loads/unloads and
fires all the clay and glass in the kiln, keeps us stocked in glaze and clay and cool tools to do this work; Janet Bien and Heather Morrow who keep the supply room stocked and
organized, and Sunshine Kragh who runs the Art Walk (coming up on May 17th - see details above in Art Walk section). Thanks to ALL!

ParentWiser News
Join our book discussion on the national best-selling book "The Gift of Failure" by Jessica Lahey. Read a copy in advance if you can, and come exchange ideas on how together we can implement a cultural change in raising resilient, self-motivated kids. Author Jessica Lahey talked to parents about her research and advice on April 25th in the Issaquah school district. Whether you attended her talk or not, you can participate in this debrief discussion to provide insight on our own local society to enable all ages of kids
(and parents?) to learn, grow, and succeed from their mistakes. Join us on May 22nd at 7pm in Cafe 1910 at
Swedish Issaquah. See you then!

FOOD OF THE MONTH
Fun Fact for Food of the Month for May: Strawberry
In parts of Bavaria, country folk still practice the annual rite each spring of tying small baskets of wild strawberries to the horns of their cattle as an offering to elves. They believe that the elves, are passionately
fond of strawberries, will help to produce healthy calves and an abundance of milk in return.

Endeavour Gardens
It's planting time in the school garden! Thanks to Ms. Haines'
Kindergartners for sowing pumpkin seeds, Ms. Mohney’s 5th graders for
planting beats and radishes, and Ms. Nack's fourth graders for sowing
greens.
WSPTA Convention
Last weekend, four of your PTSA Leadership Team, Ana Gentilini, Meredith King, Joanna Moore and Lisa Peppin attended the Washington State PTA Convention in SeaTac. At the convention, bylaw changes were presented and voted on, new state leadership was elected, and various groups and individuals were recognized for their contributions. We also gathered information from relevant vendors and attended classes on various subjects including: strategic planning, leadership styles, organization, membership, and even on how to create readable newsletters! It was fun and educational -- and you don't need to be a Board Member to attend, so look out for it next year!
