By Matt and Dylan
What is Industrial Engineering
• the branch of engineering that deals with the creation and management of systems that integrate people and materials and energy in productive ways.
Work Task
• Design manufacturing processes• Develop automation for high productivity• Develop production schedules and establish inventory levels• Ensure product quality is maintained• Develop software that analyzes data, controls equipment
and unites the production system• Design the job itself, so that it conforms to the capabilities
and limitations of the human operator and ensures the workers' health and safety
• Analyze and design supply chain
Necessary Skills and Abilities
• Critical Thinking• Active Listening• Time Management• Reading Comprehension• Complex Problem Solving• Mathematics• Writing
Necessary Skills and Abilities cont.
• Judgment and Decision Making• Speaking• Active Learning• Oral Expression• Deductive Reasoning• Oral Comprehension• Problem Sensitivity• Mathematical Reasoning
Necessary Skills and Abilities cont.
• Inductive Reasoning• Information Ordering• Speech Clarity• Visualization• Written Comprehension
Education
• Georgia Institute of Technology, • University of Michigan, • Purdue University, • Pennsylvania State University-University Park, • University of California at Berkeley, • Virginia Tech, • Texas A&M University,
Education cont.
• Stanford University, • Northwestern University, • Cornell University, • Milwaukee School of Engineering, • Arizona State University, • Texas Tech University, • University of Wisconsin-Madison
Training required
• There is no training required but people would like to hire someone with a 2-year associate degree or other postsecondary training in engineering technology.
Wage Information
• In 2008 the wage was $47,180
Job Outlook
• Technicians are expected to have a 7% employment growth between 2008 and 2018.
Why or why not
• This doesn’t appeal to us because we don’t like making stuff in productive ways and we would rather make $55,000 with aerospace.
