Task Force Members:

Consider and provide recommendations to implement a consortial approach to purchasing ebooks, with the possible goal of sharing titles purchased by individual members. 

Examine the idea of centrally funding an ebook collection to which all VALE members have access.

VALE ebooks Collections Task Force charges:

1) Perform an environmental scan, beginning with a brief survey, to prioritize the focus of the shared collection; and assess whether a number of different shared collections might best fit the needs of different kinds of VALE libraries.

Tasks to Perform:

2) Hold an ebook Collections Demo Day in late May/early June with presentations by early ebook collections adapters from VALE libraries and by vendors, with the help of Eric Zino and Timothy Cherubini of Lyrasis.

Tasks to Perform:

3) Communicate with key people involved in other shared ebook collection initiatives, such as the Orbis Cascade Alliance (covering Oregon and Washington) and VIVA (covering Virginia).

4) Write a report on findings and recommendations for VALE.

1) Investigate the market for consortial purchasing

2) Select ebook Collections for purchasing with subjects targeted from the ebook Collections Survey

3) Arrange for Demo Days of targeted ebook Collections that include practicing librarians discussing selection and access issues

4) Develop a funding model to support the program in an equitable manner
