L’Esprit CreoleMusic of Old LouisianaSaturday, March 31, 8 p.M.Led by fiddler Dennis Stroughmatt, L’Esprit Creole specializes in the music of the French speaking enclaves of the Ozarks and midwest. Dennis studied with Old Mines, Missouri fiddlers Roy and Pete Boyer and Charlie Pashia and is considered a leading interpreter of the old style that evolved from the music brought to the area by early 18th-century French settlers.

Kieran Kane & Rayna GellertSaturday, april 7, 8 p.M.Kieran is an accomplished songwriter and as well as co-founder the independent label Dead Reckoning Records. Rayna turned to Appalachian old-time music at a young age, becoming a prodigious fiddler and leading a new revival of American stringband music through her work with the acclaimed roots band Uncle Earl.

He learned from fiddlers Tommy Jarrell and Robert Sykes, from banjo player Dix Freeman, and former Camp Creek Boys Verlin Clifton and Paul Sutphin.

She learned many of her ballads from her great-aunt, Dellie Chandler Norton. Other influences include Cas Wallin, Inez Chandler, Vergie Wallin, Berzilla Wallin, Evelyn Ramsey and Dillard Chandler.

Tim O’Brien BandBluegrassthurSday, april 19, 8 p.M.West Virginia native and Grammy winning singer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter Tim O’Brien grew up singing in church, and after seeing Doc Watson, became a lifelong devotee of old time and bluegrass music. He was a founding member of the band Hot Rize and first played the Laurel with that band.
