The Israelites during Malachi time

BACKGROUND:

1.Settled back in the land for 100 years

2.Mixing in with many foreigners

3.Already rebuilt temple

4.Serving God “religiously”

5.Still lacking the glory of God

6.Still experiencing no blessing

It’s NOT about a RELIGION

It’s about a RELATIONSHIP

Roles of the priests:

• Mediator between God & His people

• Bringing God’s love to the people

• Bringing the people’s sacrifices to God

• God expects the sacrifices to be perfect

“For from the rising of the sun even to its setting, My name will be great among the nations, and in every place incense is going to be offered to My name, and a grain offering that is pure; for My name will be great among the nations,” says the Lord of hosts.

God’s Name will be glorified EVERYWHERE

Failures of the priests:

• Despising God (v.12)

• Complaining about the work (v.13)

• Offering stolen goods as sacrifices (v.13)

• Offering unwanted goods as sacrifices (v.13)

• Deceiving God in their sacrifices (v.14)

• Honoring people more than God (v.8)

Who’s your boss? Whom are you honoring?

SO WHAT?

We are the PRIESTS today!

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9)

WE ARE CALLED TO BE THE BRIDGE BETWEEN GOD AND HIS PEOPLE!

SO WHAT?

All of our DECISIONS

need to be made

for the purpose

of HONORING GOD!

• The example of Jesus:– The Ultimate Priest– The Perfect Sacrifice– The decisions He made

Are our decisions honoring to God?
