Bronchitis is inflammationof the mucous membranesof the bronchi.

There are two basic typesof bronchitis - acute andchronic.

Acute bronchitis is characterized by thedevelopment of a cough, with or withoutthe production of sputum.

It often occurs during the courseof an acute viral illness such asthe common cold or influenza.

Chronic bronchitis, a type of chronicobstructive pulmonary disease, ischaracterized by the presence of aproductive cough.

Chronic bronchitis most often developsdue to recurrent injury to the airwayscaused by inhaled irritants.

Bronchopneumonia is a commoninflammation of the lung.

Inflammation starts in bronchioles, and spreads to the peribronchiolaralveoli and alveolar ducts.

The result is that the inflammatorychanges lead to the localizedinflammatory consolidation inbronchioles and their surroundingalveoli of the lungs.

Most of the time, bronchopneumonia iscaused by bacterial infection.

It often occurs in human due tothe lower body resistance andthe impaired defense functionof the respiratory tract.

Cough and coughingup phlegm are boththe main symptoms ofbronchopneumonia.

Having fever and shortnessof breath are also common.

Lung cancer is a disease that consists ofuncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lung.

The main types of lung cancer aresmall-cell lung carcinoma and non-small-cell lung carcinoma.

The most common cause of lung cancer islong-term exposure to tobacco smoke. There are non-smokers who also sufferfrom lung cancer.

Lung cancer may be seen on chest radiographand computed tomography. The diagnosis isconfirmed with a biopsy.

Treatment and prognosis depend uponthe histological type of cancer, the stageand the patient's performance status.

Possible treatments include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy.Survival varies, depending on stage, overall health, and other factors.
