The art of ashigs is an ancient bardic tradition thatbelongs mostly to the old Turkic World (Central Asia,Iran, Turkey, Caucasus and North-West China). Anashig is a poet, composer, singer, musical performerand occasionally dancer, who beats on the strings ofthe saz and improvises serenades and ballads. The tradition of Azerbaijani ashigs dates back to atleast the 14th Century.Mugham is a traditional musi-cal art form from Azerbaijan.The word mugham refers bothto a melodic style and to agenre of traditional music.

in advance for concerts promotedby Brighton Early Music Festival,including the free BBC Radio 3broadcast (event 6):
1. On-line at www.bremf.org.uk Youwill be given the choice of printingoff your own e-tickets (no bookingfee) or having tickets issued toyou (handling charge £1.00) eitherby mail or on the door.
2. By post using the form on page23 (no booking fee)
3. By phone (transaction fee £2.25) orin person (no fee) from the BrightonDome Box Office, New Road,Brighton BN1 1UE (01273 709709),open Mon-Sat 10am to 6 pm.

CONCESSIONARY TICKETSThese are available to young
people (age 12-25 inclusive), thoseaged 60 or more and those inreceipt of state benefits. Childrenunder 12 are admitted free ofcharge if accompanied by a payingadult. However, a Child Ticket mustbe obtained. Unaccompaniedchildren under 16 cannot be theresponsibility of the festival.

Tickets. A Season Ticket giving youa top price ticket to all events(except workshops) is £170 (£150concessions).
